2016 ORLANDO CHARTER BUS TICKETS
At the October 15 chapter meeting the 2016 Orlando NFB
National Convention bus tickets were distributed to assist in getting
members to the July convention next year. These $1 bus tickets are
available from David Houck at the Federation Center and money from ticket
sales and filled out ticket stubs should be turned in to David Houck. The
drawing will be held at the Statewide Seminar on January 9, 2016 and the
seller and buyer of that ticket drawn will each receive $300; or if you
bought your own ticket, you will receive $600! The NFB of SC chapter or
division selling the most tickets will receive $300 for their treasury. We
must get out there and sell as many tickets as possible in order to fund
the chartered bus and to win the $300 for the Columbia Chapter!
YARD SALE AND FISH FRY MOVED TO SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7
The October 31 yard sale has been moved to Saturday, November
7 due to the Center already being used on the 31st. $30 for your own table
and you can keep the proceeds from your sales or bring yard sale items for
the chapter to sell. The yard sale begins at 7:00 a.m. and the fish fry
around lunch time. The cost of the fish fry plate is $7.50 and $8.50.
CHAPTER AND STATE DUES
It's not too early to begin turning in your chapter and state
dues of $15 for 2016 for the Columbia Chapter. Remember that we need to
have your name, address, phone number and email address if you have one.
These things do change and if we do not have updated information, we cannot
keep you up to date on what's going on. The deadline for dues is January 31
so why wait!

OCTOBER 15 COLUMBIA CHAPTER MEETING
President Tiffiny Mitchell gaveled the meeting to order at
6:30 p.m. Isaiah Nelson prepared a fine BBQ dinner for the good sized
crowd. Darlene Houck gave a devotional about Jesus being the captain of
life's seas. The State Fair trip is Thursday, October 22. The cost to ride
the van is $5 and the van leaves the Center at 5:15 p.m. Everyone remember
to turn in your names at the November 12 chapter meeting for a secret Santa
project. Gifts should not exceed $15. The Harvest Church will be hosting
our November 12 meeting as well.
Jennifer Bazer attended an Association for Exceptional Parents
Conference where she spoke on the Blind Persons Right to Parent Act which
has been passed in a dozen states. She also spoke on a parent's panel at
the conference. Ed Bible wants as many as can to log on to sccb.state.sc.us
to fill out an online survey on the Commission, what it is doing right and
where there is room for improvement which is in line with a federal audit of
the agency. Governor Haley has issued two proclamations this month
regarding the blind. The first is the October 15 White Cane Safety Day
proclamation and the second is the October Disabilities Employment Month.
Following the chapter's 2016 elections, an offering of $345.70 was taken up
for Neil Dorsey who lost everything in the recent rain and flood. A gift
will also be made by the chapter to Billy and Nancy Irwin who lost much due
to flooding as well. Van money collected amounted to $39.00 and dinner
funds collected amounted to $207.00. A collection of non-perishable items
was taken to give to the Harvest Hope Food Bank.
