Seminars at Hadley Presents:
An Overview and Basic Introduction to JAWS

Are you new to JAWS, or just curious about the world's most commonly used screen reader? Would you like to learn more about this technology? This seminar will discuss and demonstrate beginning keystrokes for navigation and the reading of documents and websites. It will discuss some of the additional features and capabilities of JAWS in order for new users to build their confidence in using it across environments.

Join Seminars at Hadley as Hadley technology instructor Ian Shadrick introduces new users to the basics of JAWS.

The Lowdown on What's Up with Braille Literacy at Hadley
Date: Tuesday, August 9, 2016

Want to know what’s going on at Hadley with Braille Literacy? Have you heard that there is no point to learning braille because of changes in technology? For Hadley, nothing could be further from the truth. If print is difficult for you, or you can no longer see print at all, join us to hear other ways to learn to read and write — and that includes using braille!

Whether you learn the entire code or the alphabet, braille can be a life changing experience. You no longer have to wade through all kinds of messages or other recordings to find a simple phone number or grocery list. You won’t have to rely on your spouse or other family members to get information for you. Learn how these six little dots can give you independence, self-confidence and change your life.

Join instructors Sharon Howerton and Danette Johnson as they discuss each of the braille literacy courses in Hadley's Adult Continuing Education (ACE) program. Hadley’s Braille Student of the Year, Sue Brasel, will join us to talk about her experiences and give tips on how to make the most of each course.

Explore the Significant Improvements to Zoom

Zoom is the magnification software that is built right into Apple’s operating system. Before iOS 8, Zoom only magnified the screen. The new Zoom has really gone out of its way to add some game-changing magnification features — and now there are a number of new tools that make the overall improvements to Zoom significant. Read Up on Bookshare

Did you know that as a currently enrolled ACE/HS Hadley student you can get a free membership to Bookshare.org? Bookshare is the largest online library for qualified, print impaired individuals. The library provides access to more than 90,000 books and 150 periodicals available in synthesized voice, refreshable braille or large print.

Hadley and Bookshare have formed a partnership offering special membership rates that open up the world of reading. Bookshare books are “accessible,” which means you can read the books many different ways. Offering the world’s largest collection of accessible titles, students can access the books they need for school, work, career advancment, skill development and the simple love of reading in formats that work for them.
