Did you know that Nancy Gibson broke the color barrier?

 

Here's how.

 

When I worked at the camp, selling T Shirts at the State Convention, the
first year, all we had in large sizes were white. Nancy requested the larger
sizes contain more color choices. Over the next few years, she and other
convention goers, bought several of the colorful, larger shirts.

 

I think Nancy bought a half dozen over that time.

 

At the funeral, I told this little story to John. He told me that Nancy wore
one of those T Shirts days before her death, and loved wearing them.

 

Rest in Peace, Nancy.

Thanks Tom for the obit.  I worked with Nancy from time to time as part of
the B E p selection committee.  

Senior camp was very enjoyable.  Just got back.

Nancy was a member of the Clarendon County Chapter of the NFB of SC.  Please
remember her family during this difficult time.

 

Nancy Gibson 

 SUMMERTON, SC-- Nancy Bryant Gibson, 66, passed away Wednesday, May 18,
2016. She was the wife of Coy Jon Gibson and the daughter of the late Melvin
and Nettie Louise Orr Bryant. She was self employed with the South Carolina
Commission for the Blind. 

 In addition to her husband she is survived by a son, Doug Gibson and wife
Alicia; four sisters, Geneva Smith of Gastonia, Mary McKelvey of Boiling
Springs, Carolyn Walker of Enoree and Gloria Bryant of Spartanburg; two
brothers, Herman Bryant of Latta and Junior Bryant of Clinton; and three
grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Hawley, Thomas Anthony 'AJ' Sherbert, Jr. and
Angel Gibson. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Wallace 'Rusty' Ruff;
and a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Street and three brothers, Dale Bryant,
Thomas Bryant and Jerry Bryant. 

 Funeral Services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Stribling
Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Esta G Gilley officiating. The family will
receive friends from 3 until 4 PM prior to the service. 

 Memorials may be made to The National Federation of the Blind SC Chapter,
119 S. Kilbourne Rd., Columbia, SC 29205.
