JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
At the South Carolina Commission for the Blind, Our mission is to provide quality individualized vocational rehabilitation services, independent living services and prevention-of-blindness services to blind and visually impaired consumers leading to competitive employment and social and economic independence.
The South Carolina Commission for the Blind welcomes applications for the rewarding career of Counselor Trainer.
Under the supervision of the Director of Consumer Services, and in collaboration with Regional Directors, the Counseling Staff Trainer is responsible for assessing VR Counselor skill sets, conducting GAP analysis of those skill sets, and creating customized training for individual VR Counselors and group training sessions. The position will remain current in the field by serving as a temporary "floater" covering vacant caseloads until a replacement is selected and training is initiated. This trainer is responsible for training on evidence based VR counseling skills, Motivational Interviewing, other counseling techniques, customer service communication skills, and case management.
MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree and professional experience in human services or social services programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Agency preferred requirements: A master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling or a master's in a related field. A minimum of 4 years of experience working as a VR Counselor in a state VR agency. A CRC is the preferred certification.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Candidates must have knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation program, laws and regulations, processes, and techniques. Must be skilled at case management, case file documentation, and understand compliance with federal regulations and state law. Must also have knowledge of counseling theories including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, person centered counseling and planning, and other evidence based counseling techniques. Must have knowledge and experience teaching and training adult learners. Requires ability to evaluate counselor skill sets, conduct GAP assessments, and customize training for individual counselors and groups. This position requires that the individual have above average organizational skills and be able to work with a minimum amount of supervision. This person must be able to work as part of a leadership team. Travel required including overnight stays.
