COLUMBIA CHAPTER NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 10, 2019

 

JANUARY 10 COLUMBIA CHAPTER MEETING

              President Tiffiny Mitchell gaveled the meeting to order at
6:15 p.m.  Steve Cook welcomed visitors and guests.  The seller of the
winning Las Vegas ticket, James Byers who is the Vice President of the
Cherokee Chapter was present and received his winnings at the meeting.  We
also had visitors from Rock Hill and the Anderson Chapter.  The devotional
was given by Jennifer Bazer concerning getting ready for "Flight 2019".
Isaiah Nelson and his kitchen crew prepared and served a delicious baked
spaghetti dinner.  Ed Henkler with The Blind Guide was our guest speaker and
spoke about thriving with blindness.  He revealed the eye research projects
and technology products for the blind that he works with.  He can be reached

              The Columbia Chapter won $300 for selling the most Las Vegas
tickets and Mary Peters sold 250 of the 1,555 Columbia Chapter tickets sold.
At the February 14 chapter meeting the three top ticket sellers will be
recognized with a prize.  There was some discussion concerning a $400 hold
for incidental expenses during delegates stay at the at the Mandalay Bay.

              On Saturday, February 2 there will be a breakfast held at the
Federation Center from 8 to 11 a.m. at a cost of $12 per person.  At our
February 14 Valentine's Day chapter meeting, dinner will consist of a
grilled steak (or chicken breast if desired), scalloped potatoes, salad and
dessert at a cost of $12 per person.  Call Dorothy Barksdale at 765-1622 to
reserve your dinner order by no later than February 1.  On Saturday,
February 16, the NFB sponsored 4th annual Sweetheart Dance will take place
from 5 to 9 p.m.  Tickets are $25 each.  There will be food, music, dancing
and door prizes.  If you want to donate a door prize, contact Jennifer Bazer
at 661-6622.  Ticket money can be turned in to David Houck and he will take
your name and turn the money in.  Ticket money must be turned in by February
6.  We will have a free BINGOI on Thursday, February 21.  There will be a
breakfast at Fatz to be announced at a later date.  

              The chapter's new van insurance coverage is with Progressive
Insurance and is full coverage.  The annual premium coverage is $1,500 which
is reasonable.  The Treasurer's report by Thom Spittle revealed a current
bank balance of $2,114.52.  There was no 50-50 drawing.  The freewill
offerings this year will be donated to Rocky Bottom and January's collection
was $34.51.
