Lunch and Learn Trainings for Spring 2019

Listed below are the dates and topics for upcoming Lunch & Learn Events
 

The Lunch & Learn trainings are free, fun, laid-back opportunities to learn
technology tricks and tips. At the conclusion of each training, box lunches
will be served. The training sessions are for adults with visual impairments
interested in using technology for every day, independent living tasks.
 
If this training does not apply to you personally, please help us spread the
word by sharing this email or social media posts.  If you or someone you
know is interested in attending any of these sessions, please email

someone will reply in early January since TVI will be closed for the
holidays.)

Applicable for individuals with low vision
 

Basic Accessibility Features Available on iPad/iPhone 

*	User will learn features available for low vision including zoom,
magnifier, increased contrast and enlarged text.
*	User will learn how to modify their own device to suit visual needs
(if applicable)
*	User will learn about available apps for low vision.


Tuesday, February 12th, 2019
10:30-12:30
 
Applicable for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
 

Advanced Accessibility Features Available on iPad/iPhone 
  

*	User will learn advantages of VoiceOver
*	User will learn basic gestures/commands and how they change
interactions with device
*	User will learn how to activate VoiceOver and adjust settings (like
voice and speaking rate) to improve access to device.
*	User will learn about Voice Over training apps and other apps for
blind users.


Tuesday, March 12th, 2019
10:30-12:30
 
Applicable for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
 

Using the BARD Mobile APP with NLS and NFB Newsline APP.  
  

*	User will learn how to become patron if not already registered
*	User will learn how to set up BARD Mobile APP on iOS device
*	User will learn how to access braille and audio books from NLS
through BARD/Mobile APP
*	User will learn how to connect other assistive devices to use with
BARD Mobile APP (Include braille display and Bluetooth speakers)
*	User will learn how to access NFB Newsline App

 

  


Tuesday, April 9th, 2019
10:30-12:30
Applicable for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
 

PC vs Mac- Which platform suits my visual needs? 

*	User will learn about basic built in accessibility options for Mac
Operating System.
*	User will learn about basic built in accessibility options for a PC
operating System.
*	Clinet/Consumer will learn about additional software, including JAWS
and Magic, that can be added to a PC operating system.
*	User will learn about price differences between each of two
platforms.


Tuesday, May 7th, 2019
10:30-12:30
 
Applicable for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
 

Using ALEXA to Make Life Easier (Note: this training is a repeat of the
December 2018 training.) 

*	User will learn how to set a reminder or an alarm.

*	User will learn how Alexa can control lights, thermostat, and/or
appliances to create a Smart Home.
*	User will learn how Alexa is integrated with Calendar, Messaging,
and Calling features.
*	User will learn how Alex is integrated with different apps like Lyft
and Audible for assistance with transportation and accessing audiobooks.
*	User will learn how Alexa can assist with recreation and leisure
(music, fun facts, and exercise).
