MidlandsBiz COMET chat with CEO John Andoh

As COVID-19 continues to dictate the course of doing business and providing services in the Midlands, The COMET is busy meeting the challenge to ensure safe, reliable transportation for our community. Our service delivery model has been flexible in response to the demand for essential travel to destinations that impact everyday life. Changes have been evolving and include the following: 

*	Increasing the frequency of thoroughly cleaning our buses and facilities by instituting hourly cleaning and daily disinfecting with a bio-clean solution.
*	Implementing rear door boarding, no standing, one-per-row seating with no more than 20 passengers to a bus and mandatory end-of-line exits (enforcing Rules of the Road stating “Passengers must have a destination when riding The COMET buses”).
*	Reducing scheduled run times and running fare-free service since late March to ease the financial burden of those who may have lost wages due to the pandemic.
*	Modifying service schedules to include enhanced, on-demand routes and supplements to accommodate peak usage times as the State reopens.

The COMET partners with Senior Resources, others, to deliver meals to elderly

Since April, The COMET has partnered with Senior Resources, Axiom Farms, Foodshare, and the Columbia Food Policy Committee to get much-needed nutrition to the elderly in Richland County during the current pandemic. The COMET delivers meals to approximately 100 seniors per week.

DID YOU KNOW?

As of May 20, The COMET changed its schedule to an enhanced Sunday level of service to a Saturday level of service with added routes and increased frequency to accommodate peak demand times. There will also be on-demand service for select routes. All transit services (The COMET, ReFlex, DART) will continue to be FREE during this time.

The COMET redirects brand awareness campaign, showcases its essential nature

The COMET's new brand awareness campaign has been updated, showcasing its support and necessity for our community. The new direction seeks to show the community why The COMET has continued running throughout the pandemic and its importance to real people throughout the Midlands. The COMET is an essential service that addresses a vital need for those who are transit-dependent.
