Free White Cane Program

The National Federation of the Blind has distributed more than 64,000 free white canes since 2008.

The white cane gives blind people the ability to achieve a full and independent life, allowing us to travel freely and safely. We started our free white cane program because we believe that no blind person should be without a white cane, regardless of his or her ability to pay for it.

You can request a Free White Cane at the below link.

Good evening,

It is official! Voting Works is the system Kentucky will be using so blind and print disabled voters can cast a accessible and independent absentee ballot in the November election. As mentioned yesterday we will be scheduling at least two training sessions with Voting Works to help familiarize voters with the system. So, stay tuned.

Remember the last day to register to vote is October 5th. The last day to request an absentee ballot is October 9th.

Also, I would like to know if anyone in Jefferson County has had problems using the accessible voting machines? Has the machine been up and running when you arrived to the polling place? If not, was the precinct worker able to successfully set up the equipment. I am asking these questions because the attorneys in the Protection and I Advicacy Office have had complaints. This is in an effort to make sure all forms of voting are accessible to us. Please respond to me off line at cathyj1949 at gmail.com <mailto:cathyj1949 at gmail.com> . Thanks for your help.

Cathy
