You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams.

Hello again!

The calendar forced us to take a bit of a break from Sunrise and Shine, (our last get-together was way back on September 23rd), but the second Thursday of October is finally upon us. As you may recall Sunrise and Shine meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month beginning at 9:00 AM. Now would be a good time for a reminder that our next meeting will happen on October 28th. Hope very much that you will be able to make as many of our gatherings as possible, starting with tomorrows Zoom call.

You may be asking, what’s happening tomorrow? Well, let’s take advantage of the opportunity to recap the NFB of Florida’s recent State Convention and gather some high points and some ideas for improving the event in the future. It was so incredible having the chance to meet so many of you a couple of weeks ago. I’ve had the chance to really brag on all of you and on ‘Rise and Shine lately, including during a long conversation I had yesterday with Florida’s DBS Director, Robert Doyle. With that as a touch point we can also discuss tomorrow ways to make SRS even better than it already is. More NFB Newsline learning opportunities? Why not. More guest speakers? That’s certainly worth consideration More relaxed conversation and chances to learn about each other? You tell me!

Since I mentioned guest speakers, I’ll tell you about a frequent attendee who will join us tomorrow. Our friend Kaye Baker has asked for a bit of time to bring you all up to speed on some changes taking place at the IRS, changes that could be beneficial to you and your ability to access important information. It’s always fun having Kaye on our calls, so come and lend her an ear if you can.

If you haven’t been to one of our calls before, joining us at 9:00 AM for coffee or tea will give you a chance to find out what you’ve been missing. We always take time for welcoming new guest speakers and participants and for lots of warmth and laughter.

Most of us have become pretty familiar with attending meetings using the Zoom platform over the past year and in fact, we’ve been using Zoom since we launched Rise and Shine last year. If you’re not used to using Zoom or if it’s still giving you difficulties, don’t give up just yet. You can access the meeting by clicking on he below listed web link, by using the one tap mobile feature or by dialing the phone number provided and entering the access code when prompted.

The regulars on our call are always warm and welcoming and are thrilled to see new faces.

Hope to have you with us Thursday morning, see below for the Zoom info. The first person caught snoozing on the call has to pop the corn in October, (so stay alert Bill).

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me before the call at our NFB Newsline of Florida toll-free support line. Check the bottom of this email for the Zoom call-in instructions.
