Positive Note 1831

Greetings Fellow Federationists:

I served our family Sunday night meal of marinated chicken, seasoned red
skinned potatoes, and corn and joined my eight and eleven year old daughter
and son at the table. Two guests were in our home eating with us. My
daughter Kaylin said enthusiastically to the group, "You know those cookies
we have sold before at school?" "Yes, I replied excitedly." I was thinking
to myself. I loved those frozen cookies you just break apart and put in the
oven for about ten minutes. A great midnight snack! What about them?" I
asked. Well, I want to go around the neighborhood tomorrow and start selling
cookie dough, wrapping paper and other items in my book," she said. She
proceeded to read all the prices she could win; all the different types of
hedge hogs you can collect after selling a few items. There was a
cheerleader one; a football one and the list goes on. My son Cade starts
looking at the prizes with her. "Kaylin, you need to sell 150 items and then
we can get an Xbox. I will help you!" I chuckle quietly. I know my son is
thinking of just himself at this moment. And, then he pops in, like he heard
the thoughts in my head, "I promise to share with her!" Kaylin says with all
the determination in her voice, "Mom, it is easy, I can sell 1 million
items!" What determination in an eight year old. And, I know, if there was
enough time, she would sell 1 million items. She has that much confidence
and determination.

What is your determination level? Does it depend on the situation? The end
result? The prize? How determined are you? What stops you for being so
determined? Your mood? Your attitude? People around you? The circumstances?
If you knew you wouldn't fail, how determined would you be? My daughter,
Kaylin is determined not only can she sell 150 items, but 1 million is just
as easy. I wish I felt that determination when I approached every situation;
this is a breeze, I can do it, no problem. The next time you lack
determination, grit, drive, remember the voice of an eight year old little
girl, I can sell 1 million items, it is easy!

Fascinating Facts

You're pronouncing Dr. Seuss' name wrong.

Dr. Seuss, the popular children's book author who is known for his rhyming
skills, was born with the name Theodor Seuss Geisel. Seuss is his mother's
maiden name, and their family pronounces it as "soice" (rhyming with voice).
Seuss' college friend Alexander Liang even
<http://www.loopinsight.com/2014/06/26/turns-out-dr-seuss-was-really-dr-soic
e/> wrote a poem about the common misconception.

NFB Pledge

I pledge to participate actively in the effort of the National Federation of
the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to
support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its
constitution.

NFB One Minute Message

"The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back."
