[NFBofSC] Two projects I would like to see the NFB work on

The NFB of SC website is soon to be managed by our national office. We in SC will still have control over the content. All of the affiliates websites are methodically being migrated to centralized management by our national office. This will give all of the NFB content a uniform look and feel. This move will help too with NFB branding. These ideas and suggestions can be shared with the people involved with the changes and see how they can be incorporated into the new and improved website.

These are some good suggestions. The comment about pre-filled information would require knowledge of JavaScript, but is definitely doable.
We have a lot of work to do with the website. I have suggested that we simplify the user interface to make it easier for members and other interested parties to access the information they are looking for.
For example, committees, chapters, divisions, and the board should have separate pages. Each chapter and division name (when listed) should link to their own page that displays their boards, description, time and place of meetings, and so on.
The website should host dedicated pages for all programs of the NFB of SC including Successful Transitions, Rocky Bottom, the Federation Center, and other programs/services we provide. It should also feature articles on blindness, stories highlighting our members and leaders, and other creative ways to educate the public.
The website should be looked at as the home base for the blind of South Carolina. Our members should be able to come and access the information they are looking for, and non-members such as parents of blind children should be able to learn about the federation and what we do. The fact that the Federation Center is not featured heavily is more than a little confusing to me.
We also need to consider improving our SEO. Think about how many parents are searching google right now for info on blindness to help their blind child, or others looking to improve the lives of their blind family members and friends? We are in a position to do far more than what we have done to this point.
The website is just one way to get the word out and support the blind of SC.
I hope this type of feedback is not only welcome but considered going forward.

Thanks for posting.

Good morning, these are some of my early morning thoughts for the future of the NFB of South Carolina. I have mentioned this previously and would like to see it happen for the upcoming membership drive. I would love to see on the NFB website when someone clicks to join and fill out their membership information that they would have a list of all the chapters, and divisions, and committees and the cost of what it would be to join. That way they would be able to check the box and pick the ones they want to join and be able to pay all at one time when checking out through PayPal.

My second thought would be that the computer science division and the legislative committee work together to come up with a way that when we have something that we need to send emails or contact our representatives in the state that we would be able to have it set up like I have seen through other organizations like Ablel South Carolina and AARP. Where all I had to do was click a button it pre-filled all my information and then I was able to click the button and it sent the letter to all the representatives that needed to be reached. It also gave me the opportunity to click a button and send a tweet to each one of the representatives. I know this involves some web development and would take a lot of effort. I am not technically aware of how it’s done but it would be a great thing to see happen in the future so that our members would have an easier way of getting in touch with their representatives related to matters of importance.
Sorry for any mistakes this was dictated via iPhone
