Sherri, that was a beautiful and fitting scripture. Thank you as I think about Dorothy. Physically, she is gone but never, never forgotten.

> I did not have a lot of time to get to know Miss Barksdale, but it was a pleasure knowing her as long as I did. She was one of the first members to welcome me into the SC affiliate. Being one of 2 (to my knowledge) Muslims in the NFB of SC it hasn’t always been easy, but she was one of the first to make me feel at home and that means the world to me. I never felt judged by her and always felt the love. In our last conversation I mentioned to her that I would be running for a board position this year. She was so happy to hear that and had so many complements and encouraging words for me. I am honestly very emotional as I write this because it is a blessing from God that my last conversation with her was not only hearing her kind words, but also having the opportunity again to converse with someone who loved God with all of her heart and never treated me differently because I was of a different faith.
> She took a lot of time out of her life to speak to me about diversity, the importance of raising up your voice, and educating me on the history of the NFB of SC and her experiences. She loved this organization, she loved the members of this movement, but most of all, she loved her Lord.
> I keep thinking about her words and they make me miss her even more, but this is God’s plan, and he is the best of planners.

> Feel free to edit as you see fit if you decide to include the above in your efforts.

She truly inspired and motivated me and reminded me that God is in control and everything will be all right. May the work she’s done speak for her and she is at peace. I will always have a special place in my heart for Dot..

She also served as Secretary for the Columbia Chapter, Federation Center of the Blind, NFB of SC state board and the Rocky Bottom board. As Chairperson of the We Care Committee, Dorothy Barksdale cared for many of our members and others. She also was recognized on the Columbia Housing Authority's Wall of Fame. She will need to be replaced for the upcoming Devotional and Memorial Service at the state convention. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.
