Mrs. Willie Ruth Pendergrass Pressley was born in Kingstree, South Carolina
to the late, Leavy Pendergrass and Flora Fulton Pendergrass Redden on May 5,
1935.  On Thursday, July 07, 2022 at the Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital of
Sumter, SC, with her dear daughter (Judy) where she peacefully transitioned.

 

Willie Ruth was the widow of Thereyarn Pressley, Sr. with whom she had four
children; Baby Girl, Debra, Judy, and Thereyarn, Jr.

 

Willie Ruth's formal education was pursued in the public schools of
Williamsburg County of Kingstree, South Carolina where she attended the
historic Cades High School.  She received training at T-Square and became
employed in 1970 with Cover Mfg./Madison Industries of Sumter, serving a
tenure of thirty-four years.

 

Willie Ruth was a faithful and active member of Trinity Missionary Baptist
Church where she served on the Senior Missionary Ministry, the
Widows/Widowers Ministry, the Women's Ministry, sang on the Senior Choir,
participated on the prayer lines and Wednesday Midday and Evening Bible
studies.

 

Additionally, she was a dedicated member of the Sumter Chapter of the
National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina, and volunteered her time
to the Neighbors Reunion Committee, the Church Women United-Greater Sumter
Area, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, the Spectrum Center and the
NAACP.

 

Willie Ruth enjoyed fellowship and was an encourager, motivating those
around her to achieve by sharing her personal testimonies and valuable
wisdom.  She enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music, associating with
family/friends and especially her grands and great-grandchildren.

 

She leaves to cherish her precious memory; two daughters, Debra Canty, Judy
(Jerry) Simon both of Sumter; one son, Pastor Thereyarn (Irina) Pressley,
Jr. of Meridian. Idaho; Nine Grandchildren:  Cedric Gibbons, Corey (Tanisha)
Gibbons, Danika Niccole (Shawn) Morris, Thereyarn Pressley, III, Marilyn
Simon, Carolyn Parnell, Michael Braun, Branden

(Alondra) Zelayandia and Christy Braun. Six Great-grandchildren: Joycelynn
Thomas, Jazmyn Thomas, Camron Gibbons, Jackson Morris, Thereyarn Pressley,
IV and Serafina Zelayandia. Three sisters-in-laws: Gloria Pendergrass,
Almeade Joyner, Hager Lee Corbett and Dora Pressley and one brother-in-law;
Roger Fowlkes, Sr. and God-daughter, Suzette Porter, alongside a host of
family, neighbors, and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Baby Girl Pressley, a
granddaughter, Crystal D. Smalls; three sisters; Sadie Pendergrass, Alma P.
Mouzon and Pastor Dorothy L. Adams; and one brother, David L. Pendergrass.

 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at
Job's Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 16th at Trinity
Missionary Baptist Church, 155 Wall St., Sumter, SC 29150 with Pastor Larry
C. Weston officiating. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park
cemetery.

Visitation at the home, 9 W. Patricia Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 from 6 to 8pm.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Friday, July 15 at Job's Mortuary, 312 South Main Street,
Sumter at 4:00-6:00 PM.

 

Home going celebration is Saturday, July 16 at Trinity Missionary Baptist
Church, 155 Wall Street, Sumter at 12:00 noon. The eulogist is Larry C.
Weston, pastor.

 

We hope as many folks can attend as possible to celebrate the life of MS.
Ruth. She was a beautiful lady who served our Federation with selfless
generosity.
