Below is the obituary for John "Butch" Compton. Please take note of the visitation and funeral services.

Obituary of John Earle Compton, Jr.
John Earle Compton, Jr., 79, resident of Cayce, husband of the late Sheila Hilley Compton, passed away on April 16, 2023 at his residence.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late John Earle Compton, Sr. and Frances Juanita Jones Compton. John was employed with the South Carolina Commission for the Blind where he retired after more than 30 years. John was of Christian faith.
John was very involved working with the vision impaired. He was a member of the National Federation of the Blind. He was also a long-time personality with HAM Radio, call letters KJ4TL, and was known as the "Mayor of 2 Meters. He and his lovely wife Sheila were very involved with the Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind in the foothills of South Carolina for many years.
John is survived by three children, a daughter, Leisa Compton Hartman and husband Stephen Hartman of Moncks Corner; two sons, John Earle Compton, III and wife Tracy Bowers Compton, of West Columbia and Lawrence O'Neal Compton of West Columbia; two sisters, Sharon Lindsay and husband Wayne of New Jersey and Kathy Ramirez and husband Juan of Travelers Rest; eight beloved grandchildren, Brandon Compton, Layne Compton, Hayden Compton, Brighton Compton, Melissa Hartman, Kristin Burrill, Stephen Hartman, Jr. and Jesse Bellinger. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday, April 20th at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow at 3:00PM in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00PM, Wednesday, April 19th at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington.
For those desiring to make memorials, the family suggest they be made to Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind, 123 Hancock Road, Sunset, SC 29685.
Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the Compton family.
