Dear Federation Family,
The National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina Convention week is
here and members are working hard to ensure that the convention goes well!
Even though the early bird rate closed on July 25, 2024, we still have
members who are registering for the convention. Please use the link below to
continue to register if you plan to attend. If you need assistance with the
electronic registration process, please reach out to me and someone will
assist you. Regular registration is $100, student registration is $60 and
children under the age of 18 is $30. If you have not registered for this
event, please do so at https://nfbofsc.org/node/178. If at all possible,
please register by close of business on August 12, 2024 as final food
numbers are due to the hotel by 12:00 PM on August 13, 2024.
There are several convention reminders to share with you. Please see the
list below.
* Rookie Round-Up - There is some confusion around this item. We held
a Rookie Round-Up in 2023 on Thursday evening for our students to get
connected with our various divisions. This event is not taking place this
year and there are no formal meetings on Thursday evening. Please take this
time to get acquainted with the hotel and enjoy fellowship with each other.
* Housekeeping - Housekeeping will occur daily in guest rooms unless
the Do Not Disturb placard is hanging on the door. This is a change from
last year.
* Shower Curtains - According to the hotel, the shower curtains are
long enough. Please be aware that the shower curtain may be in two pieces at
the bottom and one piece at the top. At the bottom, there may be one piece
that goes inside the bathtub and one piece that goes on the outside of the
bathtub. Please ensure that your shower curtain is in the correct place to
prevent any unwanted flooding.
Volunteers Needed - We are asking our sighted members to volunteer to assist
with the breakfast buffet line each morning to ensure that everyone moves
through it smoothly. There are two other groups in the hotel, so it will be
very busy in that area. Breakfast runs from 6:30 - 9:30 AM on Friday morning
and currently runs from 7:30 - 10:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The
hotel is working to see if any adjustments can be made on Saturday and
Sunday mornings to assist us. If you are willing to assist our blind
members, please reach out to David Bundy via e-mail at
davidbundy13 at outlook.com <mailto:davidbundy13 at outlook.com> or via telephone
at 803-447-7629 or Thom Spittle via e-mail at nfbsc.lab.4 at gmail.com
<mailto:nfbsc.lab.4 at gmail.com> or via telephone at 803-331-3344. We
appreciate all that our members do to support the NFB of SC!
In preparation for the memorial service at the state convention, please send
the names of any members in your chapter or division who passed since the
last state convention. Please send names to Melinda Jones at
melindajones0571 at gmail.com <mailto:melindajones0571 at gmail.com> or call her
at 864-978-3230.
Lenora Robertson is serving as the Door Prize Chair for the NFB of SC State
Convention. Cash and gift cards are always favorite items. You can purchase
gift cards from the At Large chapter in the amount of $25 or greater. Please
bring your door prize contributions to the convention or you can mail them
to Lenora Robertson, 1258 Roundtree Circle, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Let's have
an abundance of door prizes to share at the state convention.
