Cooking with The Blind Kitchen
Everyone has a place at the table in The Blind Kitchen!
Welcome to The Blind Kitchen's monthly newsletter, where we talk about our adaptive tools, helpful strategies, and specialized knowledge provided to blind and vision-impaired people who want to cook safely, confidently, and independently.
>From the Store:
The Blind Kitchen offers tools and techniques that make cooking at home safe and enjoyable for blind and vision-impaired home cooks. This is what we are really excited about right now!
Image Description: This image depicts the Baking Grid Pan Set over a white background. The rectangular metal baking pan set consists of 3 pieces: a baking pan, a metal “sling” and a metal grid with handles. The baking pan is a regular 13 inch by 7 inches by 2 inches, the “sling” fits exactly into the bottom of the pan, and the grid fits right above the sling and inside the outer pan. The set, when assembled, measures 13 inches long, 7 inches wide and 2 inches deep. It is made of carbon steel and all pieces have non stick surfaces.
Baking Grid Pans
Cutting a cake, brownies or marshmallow squares into equally sized, attractive pieces can be difficult with vision loss. The Baking Grid Pan set allows the cook with vision loss to confidently know that their baked goods will be divided into 18 same size pieces.

This image is of two plates side by side, both with a piece of freshly baked Bourbon Peach Crisp topped with vanilla ice cream.
Featured Recipe: Bourbon Peach Crisp
A delicious and summery dessert that features seasoned peach slices that are topped with the crisp mixture that will provide a crunchy sweet contrast to the sweet and tender fruit. You can use fresh, frozen or canned peaches, but we love to take advantage of Peach Season which generally happens in late July or early August.

Cooking Instructor Collection:
We are pretty excited about one of our newest tool collections. Just in time for back to school we have built this special collection of 26 tools that make up our Cooking Instructor Collection. This features a comprehensive set of adaptive culinary tools for helping students with vision loss to cook safely, confidently and independently. Some of the tools keep the learner safe while performing common cooking tasks that involve heat sources and cutting tasks. Other tools help to maintain a safe, clean and efficient working area during meal preparation activities. <https://theblindkitchen.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=96db097b4e6eda54cc0ffb211&id=6df736a79e&e=9105ca7596> See more details Here.

TBK Tip of the Month: Water in the Sink
Working in a clean and uncluttered environment is a must for blind and visually impaired cooks. One of Chef Debra's best tips is to run a shallow sinkful of hot soapy water before you start to work with the food you will be cooking. <https://theblindkitchen.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=96db097b4e6eda54cc0ffb211&id=55008a8fc0&e=9105ca7596> <https://theblindkitchen.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=96db097b4e6eda54cc0ffb211&id=673aab03c7&e=9105ca7596> Click here to learn more!
