From: Marty R. McKenzie, President
Positive Note 1992
843-939-8091 president at nfbofsc.org <mailto:president at nfbofsc.org>
Dear Federation Family,
We begin this Positive Note by extending our deepest sympathy to the family
and friends of Mr. Ernest Gallman who transitioned last week. Mr. Gallman
was a well respected member of the National Federation of the Blind of South
Carolina and loved by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with
his family and friends during this difficult time.
We are now in the middle of Blindness Equality Achievement Month (BEAM) and
there are additional events to add to the list. Our chapters and divisions
are doing an excellent job of representing the organization in the public
eye with the events being presented. Thank you for all you are doing to
participate actively in BEAM!
Please note that the Presidential Release will take place on Tuesday,
October 15, 2024 at 8:30 p.m. This is a change in both the date and time of
this monthly event. The Meeting ID is 947 5821 8808.
Chapters should begin holding elections during meetings in October and
November. According to chapter constitutions, any newly elected chapter
board members take office at the close of the business meeting in which they
were elected. Please forward chapter board information to David Houck at
nfbsc at sc.rr.com <mailto:nfbsc at sc.rr.com> , Thom Spittle at
membership at nfbofsc.org <mailto:membership at nfbofsc.org> , Steve Cook at
stevecookwebmaster at nfbofsc.org <mailto:stevecookwebmaster at nfbofsc.org> and
to me at president at nfbofsc.org <mailto:president at nfbofsc.org> . If you have
any questions about dues or chapter elections, please reach out to me.

Congratulations to David Houck who represents the NFB of SC so well! He had
a one-hour interview with a University of South Carolina graduate journalism
student on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 where they talked all about blindness
and the National Federation of the Blind. Her grandfather is blind in
Annapolis, Maryland. She previously worked as a TV journalist in Washington,
DC. She also attended the Columbia Chapter meeting on October 10, 2024.
This is a friendly reminder that all banquet pledges from the state
convention are due by December 31, 2024. You can mail a check to the
Federation Center or pay using PayPal. Thank you for taking care of this!
