Dear Federation Family,

Recently, I had a conversation with Thom Spittle who posed a question to one
of our newer members, chapter presidents and board members. He asked, "What
are you passionate about with the National Federation of the Blind of South
Carolina? What do you really want to do in this organization?" This is a
question that we should all ask ourselves and ensure that we have a concrete
answer. As individuals, we will put forth greater effort if we are
passionate about a particular item or issue. I challenge each of you to ask
yourself these questions and examine your answers. Then, go out and do it.
Your blind brothers and sisters will help you accomplish your dreams! Then,
share your answers with me. I want to know what members are thinking and
what you are passionate about. We can live the lives we want, blindness is
not what holds us back!

On Saturday, August 31, 2024, I dropped in on Tech Talk just to see what is
happening with this time that is shared on Saturday afternoon. I was
pleasantly surprised to find orchestrated presentations on AI including Be
My Ai and other apps that blind individuals can use. There were at least 15
people present and several are from other states. Tech Talk has proven to be
very popular and provides a tremendous amount of assistance to newly blinded
individuals who are learning what the technology can do for them. They also
spend time answering questions on just about any topic that participants
want to raise. Greg Jones currently sends the weekly reminders about this
time together and I appreciate all of our Federationist who take time to do
this and help our blind brothers and sisters!

Palmetto Connects will take place on September 10, 2024 at 8:00 p.m. Please
share this information through your chapter phone trees and let's work to
increase the attendance at Palmetto Connects. The phone number is
929-205-6099 and the meeting ID is 803 254 3777. If you are using Zoom on a
computer, tablet or phone, active the Join button and enter the above
meeting ID. The passcode is 124578.

Blind Equality Achievement Month (BEAM) begins October 1, 2024 and we need
exciting BEAM events that showcase our many talents and success stories
within the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina. Please share
your events so that they can be shared in the Positive Note as well as on
www.nfb.org <http://www.nfb.org> .

I am happy to share information from the Federation family in the weekly
Positive Note. After working with the Positive Note for two years now, I
understand that brevity is very important and I work hard to keep it at two
pages. That is not always possible however. When you prepare announcements
for the Positive Note, please confine them to one paragraph of approximately
100 words or less. All announcements should be in my in-box by 8:00 p.m.
each Saturday. I appreciate your assistance with this request.
