Dear Federation Family,

 

Today is the concluding day of the National Convention and the banquet is
taking place right now at 9:25 p.m. The time was filled with fascinating
presentations on a variety of subjects including artificial intelligence in
several varieties and other technology presentations of interest.
Additionally, There were several presentations on digital accessibility
during this week. While it is not possible to capture everything, there are
some items of note. Steve Cook addressed the Resolutions Committee on a
resolution dealing with enterprise systems in the workplace and their
accessibility. Sonia Timmons was extremely active in the Parents of Blind
Children Division and I attended relevant meetings. The last reported total
in attendance was 2,582 which broke all record since COVID 19. At the
National Board Meeting, South Carolina was announced as number one in the
organization with 65 new members during the last year! I knew we had many
new members but did not know it was so many.

 

During the roll call of states, it was announced that 82 members registered
in person. There are also seven staff from Successful Transitions, six
students from Successful Transitions, and four Career Quest students
attending. In addition, nine chapter and division presidents are present,
along with other important updates. South Carolina showed up and showed out
at the National Convention!

 

We were reminded that the National Convention will take place in Austin,
Texas during 2026 and 2027, in Chicago, Illinois in 2028 and 2029 and it was
announced that we will be in Phoenix, Arizona in 2030. There is a great deal
to look forward to during the next five years!

The National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina invites you to kick
off the 2025 Annual State Convention with "An Evening to Remember: Prom
Night & Talent Show" on Friday, August 15, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This
special evening will feature a best dressed contest where two individuals
will be crowned Prom King and Queen and awarded $200 each based on their
individual style and presentation. The event will also include a talent show
showcasing up to 15 contestants, each given three minutes to perform. Talent
show entry is $25 per act. Open to Federation members of all ages, this
event is a celebration of confidence, creativity, and community spirit.

Door Prizes

First Vice President Lenora Robertson will again serve as the door prize
chairperson. Please bring your door prizes to the state convention and give
them directly to her. If shipping, address them to Lenora Robertson, 1258
Roundtree Circle, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Shipments should arrive no later than
Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Door prizes should have a minimum value of $10.
