Positive Note 2033
Dear Federation Family,
On Saturday, July 26, 2025, we celebrated the 35th anniversary of the
passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Signed into law by
President George H.W. Bush in 1990, the ADA represents a foundational piece
of disability rights legislation in the United States, and as we reflect on
it 35 years later, we acknowledge the change for the better it has given to
all people with disabilities. However, it is important to realize that the
ADA is the floor of disability rights; it is the minimum required standard.
Until the employment statistics for disabled and non-disabled people are
equal, until we can access every website and mobile app without work-arounds
and until those of us with service animals can move through the world
without constant transportation denial, we must keep up the fight toward
equity not only equality.
