Positive Note 2022

Dear Federation Family,

Happy Mother's Day to all of our mothers in the National Federation of the
Blind of South Carolina! Mother's Day is a special holiday celebrated to
honor and appreciate mothers for their love, care, and sacrifices. It began
in the United States in the early 1900s when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for
her mother and campaigned to make it a national holiday. In 1914, President
Woodrow Wilson officially declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
Today, it is celebrated in many countries around the world with gifts,
cards, and acts of kindness. The day is important because it reminds us to
show gratitude and love to the women who have helped shape our lives.

A cheerful group of hard-working Federationist gathered at the Federation
Center on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 to assist with processing donations for our
members as well as for the Power Hour! We had 59 unique donations registered
for the Power Hour but, alas, it was not enough. We once again won the
Nelson Mullins Midday Motivation Giving Award which is second place for
Rocky Bottom. This year, it earned us an additional $1,000 on top of our
donations. The NFB of SC raised $2,059 of our goal of $5,000 and Rocky
Bottom raised $3,593 in total. I appreciate everyone who participated in the
gathering at the Federation Center! Your hard work paid off. I also extend
appreciation to Isaiah Nelson for ensuring that the food was served to busy
Federationist as they worked to enter donations!

The Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship winners were announced this week and we
have four lucky individuals from South Carolina who received scholarships
this year. Congratulations to Brandon Jenkins, Marvin Nelson, Karen Davis
and Patrice Williams. See you in New Orleans!
