Positive Note 2047
Dear Federation Family,
On Monday, October 20, 2025, President Mark Riccobono and other Advocacy and
Policy leaders from the National Federation of the Blind held a Legislative
and Advocacy Zoom meeting with affiliate presidents and legislative
directors to outline an advocacy plan regarding the Office of Special
Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS). Of particular focus are the
states that have a member on the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions
Committee (HELP). Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina serves on the HELP
Committee. Currently, we are engaged with getting an appointment with
Senator Scott for two people to travel to Washington to meet with him
regarding the reduction in force (RIF)s that took place in OSERS. The
National Office believes that this is an extremely important advocacy item
and we are cooperating in every way possible. There is more to come on this
topic.
Palmetto Connects
The next Palmetto Connects is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at
8:00 p.m. on the NFB of SC Zoom platform. The phone number is 929-205-6099
and the meeting ID is 803 254 3777#. If you are using the Zoom app on your
computer, phone or tablet, activate the Join button and enter the above
meeting ID without the # sign. The passcode is 124578 for use with these
devices. Continue to encourage members to participate in this monthly
meeting so that we can improve our attendance.
Rocky Bottom Service Opportunity from Thom Spittle
We had an awesome senior camp at Rocky Bottom recently. A couple of lists
came to my attention which gives the opportunity for small groups to go to
the camp and help beautify it. For those that go for a cleaning session,
there will be no charge for your stay. We have indoor opportunities of
cleaning, and some outside opportunities with grounds maintenance. We are
looking for groups of less than 10 people at a time. This could be a
chapter, multiple chapters, or just a group of friends that want to get
together in the mountains and have a great time while helping out the camp.
We have not had a resident manager in over a year, so it is up to those that
love the camp to step up and help make it the place we all want to see.
Please let me know if you have a group that would like to help. Call me at
803-331-3344.
