Footloose 1984

Chicago natives Ren McCormack and his mother Ethel move to the small town of Bomont, Utah, to live with Ren's aunt and uncle. At church he meets the strict Reverend Shaw Moore, his wife Vi, and their rebellious daughter Ariel.

 

 

At school Ren befriends Willard Hewitt. He learns that the town council has banned dancing and rock music within the town boundary. Ren falls for Ariel, angering her boyfriend Chuck Cranston, who challenges Ren to a game of chicken involving tractors. Ren wins, only because his shoelace gets caught preventing him jumping away.

 

 

Reverend Moore forbids Ariel from seeing Ren. Ren drives Willard, Ariel, and her friend, Rusty, to a bar across the state line to go dancing.

Willard, unable to dance, becomes jealous and gets into a fight with a man dancing with Rusty.

 

 

On the drive home, Ariel describes how, five years earlier, her older brother died in a car accident after a night of alcohol and dancing. Their father then persuaded the town council to enact strict anti-liquor, anti-drug, and anti-dance laws. Ren decides to challenge the dancing and rock music ban so the high school can hold a senior prom.

 

 

Willard is embarrassed he cannot dance, so Ren teaches him. Chuck confronts Ariel about her feelings for Ren and they get into a physical altercation before breaking up. Ren helps Ariel conceal the physical assault, cementing their relationship.

Stand By Me 1984

In 1985, writer Gordon "Gordie" Lachance sees a newspaper article stating that attorney Chris Chambers—his childhood best friend—was murdered. In an extended flashback, Gordie recounts his experiences at age 12 on Labor Day weekend in 1959.

 

 

In Castle Rock, Oregon, Vern Tessio tells his friends Gordie LaChance, Chris Chambers, and Teddy Duchamp that he just heard his older brother Billy discussing Ray Brower, a missing boy from a neighboring town, with a friend.

Billy and his friend found Ray's body in a wooded area near train tracks, but were unable to notify police about it without making it known that they had stolen a car.

 

 

Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern decide to find the body, believing that doing so will make them local heroes. The boys tell their families that they plan to camp out together. Before meeting up with Vern and Teddy, Chris shows Gordie a Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol stolen from his father. The two then run into the town bully, John "Ace" Merrill, and Chris' older brother, Richard "Eyeball" Chambers. Ace harasses Chris and steals a Yankees baseball cap that Gordie's recently deceased older brother, Denny, gave him.

 

 

The boys trespass through Milo Pressman's yard. They barely outrun Chopper the guard dog, who is far less fearsome than his reputation would suggest.

An angry Milo insults Teddy's father, a mentally ill war veteran. Enraged, Teddy tries to attack Milo. The other boys restrain him, and they continue on their journey. Chris encourages Gordie to fulfill his potential as a writer despite his neglectful father's disapproval. Later, Gordie and Vern are nearly hit by a passing train while crossing a train bridge.

 

 

That night, Gordie entertains the boys with a fictional story about a character named David "Lard-Ass" Hogan, a constantly bullied obese boy.

Seeking payback, Lard-Ass drinks a bottle of castor oil before entering a pie-eating contest. During the event, Lard-Ass deliberately throws up, inducing mass vomiting among the other contestants and spectators. Gordie calls the event a "barf-o-rama".
