About the Presentation

While the Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, it took two and a half years for the news of freedom to reach enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. In this session, Dr. Carolyn Peters will guide us through a powerful exploration of "delayed access"—not just as a historical fact, but as a lens to understand ongoing systemic barriers and equity today.

Whether you are looking to learn, reflect, or engage in meaningful dialogue, your voice and presence are incredibly valuable to our community.
