</SPAN>I begin this Positive Note with an announcement from Stephanie Nelson,
the wife of State Board member Isaiah Nelson.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Here is what she says.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>“When composing the next positive note
would you please thank Senator John L. Scott Jr. of the 19th District for
supporting his constituents by patronizing the Annual BBQ.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I asked him to show his support for
Isaiah by participating.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I also
asked a friend of mine to send the WLTX Channel 19 TV News Crew to give media
coverage of the BBQ.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I hope it was
helpful.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>We appreciate Stephanie’s
efforts and Isaiah’s work as well.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

</SPAN>For another couple of days, we will still be accepting reservations for
the NFB of SC Cruise, which would occur between the dates of February 7, 2015,
and February 14, 2015; however, if we do not have sufficient interest, we will
scrap the idea and try another activity.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>No hard feelings, it’s just that we do not have enough cabins booked to
raise money for the NFB of SC, and there is no need to do it if members are not
interested.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

</SPAN>Advocacy Day for Access and <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Independence</st1:place></st1:City> is happening on Thursday, May 8,
2014, which is of course this week, at the State House.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This is a gathering of some twenty-one
disability-related organizations with similar goals to our own.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>A number of chapters are planning to
transport members to Advocacy Day using their chapter vans, which is a most
welcomed idea.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial; FONT-SIZE: 14pt"><SPAN

to increase public awareness about independence and equality from the
prospective of the largest minority group in the nation:<SPAN

will also take time to visit with some of the state legislators involved in the
South Carolina Blind Persons Right to Parent Act, currently pending in the House
of Representatives having passed the Senate unanimously earlier this year.<SPAN

</SPAN>We begin this portion of the Positive Note by expressing sincere
gratitude for financial support received a couple of days ago including a $1,000
contribution from Walmart in Easley.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Easley businesses also made contributions totaling $670.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>I know that Children's Camp Director
Tracy Spittle and her husband Thom are grateful for this support which will
enable them to accommodate the usual number of children attending camp.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Also, we congratulate Gwen Ellenburg for
her contacts in the Easley area resulting in the gratifying financial support
for Children's Camp.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>This is a very
important program as our blind children need as much training and education as
available and these programs deserve maximum support.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

</SPAN>We also received significant contributions from our Chesterfield County
Chapter under the excellent leadership of Dorcas Campbell.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>These contributions total $450 and
include $50 for Rocky Bottom Fun Day, $100 for Children's Camp, $100 for the
Federation Center of the Blind, $100 for the NFB of SC Scholarship Fund and $100
for the NFB of SC White Cane program.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>All of these entities receiving support by our Chesterfield County
Chapter are all very deserving and merit generous financial support.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN><o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

</SPAN>We regret very much the loss of our good friend and supporter, Shirley
Holmes of Laurens who passed away on April 20, 2014.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Mrs. Holmes was very much involved in
our programs, especially Rocky Bottom.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>We have received numerous RBRCCB living memorial contributions in memory
of Mrs. Holmes which we appreciate.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>She also served a number of years on the Advisory Board of the <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Bell</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Federation</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> of the Blind.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Mrs. Holmes was a nurse for Senior Camp
at RBRCCB where she gained respect and love by those she served.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>We are advised by Doris Bell that Mrs.
Holmes was beneficial to the Laurens Chapter and the <st1:place
w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Bell</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> as well as Rocky Bottom.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>She gave generously of her time and
energy and from her nursing talents.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>She was helpful to many.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>She
was 78.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>We will miss the many
benefits provided by this lovely lady.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">

</SPAN>Speaking of Senior Camp the first week long camp will take place the week
of May 18.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>There will also be an
Advisory Board meeting on Monday, May 19 as our Senior Camp program will be
featured for the Advisory Board members.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>With the cold winter weather behind us, we welcome this beautiful time of
the year and our different programs for the blind over the state will be taking
place over the next several months.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes">
</SPAN>Let's not forget to sell our $5 Fun Day tickets.<SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Our Sumter Chapter is still ahead in
ticket sales but it will be noted that our Chesterfield County Chapter has sold
some $50 of these tickets.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>The
Center here in <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place
w:st="on">Columbia</st1:place></st1:City> and its Executive Director David Houck
are very busy these days and any financial support of the Center is very much in
order.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Congratulations to Betty who
celebrated her 83rd birthday on Monday, May 5.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
