The Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship program is designed to financially assist individuals who will be attending their first national convention. I am certain these six individuals will take full advantage of this wonderful opportunity and they will return to South Carolina full of energy and enthusiasm for the federation and share all they have learned with their fellow chapter members. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal> Our state affiliate will again this year sponsor a NFB of SC Night at the Columbia Fireflies minor league baseball game on Monday, June 10 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Isaiah Nelson will be throwing out the first pitch of the game. This will be a wonderful opportunity for us to educate the public about blindness and the NFB of SC, as we will be handing out NFB literature and displaying an audio and video PSA announcement for our organization on the scoreboard. If you would like to join us and be part of this special and fun filled evening, you will need to purchase your tickets at the Columbia Fire Flies box office located at SEGRA Park. Tickets are $10 each. Every day, we raise the expectations of blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want: blindness is not what holds you back. Joining me for comments in this Positive Note is the President Emeritus of the NFB of SC. Here is Dr. Capps. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal> This week we are spotlighting our Resident Manager at Rocky Bottom Retreat and Conference Center of the Blind. She is Linda Bible and, like many of our Resident Managers, is legally blind as well. She was born at Moss Lake, Washington. Linda says she was born on December 19, 1955. Her dad was in the Air Force so she lived everywhere. She had an older brother Edward Bible (who we all know very well as Vice Chairman of the RBRCCB Board of Directors) and a younger brother named Larry Bible. Her parents took the family camping all the time and they had dirt bikes to ride and in the winter there were snowmobiles. That’s why she likes living in the mountains. Her parents always took them to great places to see as they traveled to a lot of places most people would never see. As it is with most armed services children, Linda went to a lot of schools, but she never did like school very much. Now she knows how important it is to go to school. She has worked as a cleaning lady for years and she worked for a landscaper also. Linda Bible lived in a lot of places and she loved Alaska and Tennessee. She has been Resident Manager at Rocky Bottom since April 22, 2017 and she loves the job. She states, “You cannot get this close to God if you live in the city. This is God’s country.” She also states that, “The campers you meet, all the kids that come up here, bring this camp to life. This is a dream job for me.” Her hobbies include a love of fishing and she likes hunting, going for long hikes, and four wheeling. Linda Bible declares, “I thank—God every day for this job and I thank the ones that helped me to get this job. God Bless Rocky Bottom Camp of the Blind.” As Linda Bible states, if you have not been to Rocky Bottom before or if it’s been a long time since you’ve been here, you ought to come by and stay a while. Linda is doing an outstanding job as our Resident Manager.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Final Thought: June is a month which follows graduations, begins new careers and enters into marriage, all of which are new beginnings.<o:p></o:p></p></div></body></html>
