</o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--></head><body lang=EN-US link=blue vlink=purple><div class=WordSection1><p class=MsoNormal>Robert Harrison Buchanan, Jr.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>May 23, 1937 - January 31, 2021<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Columbia, South Carolina - Robert Harrison Buchanan, Jr. of Columbia, SC passed away at home after a short illness. He was the son of the late Robert H. and Louise M. Buchanan. He was preceded in death by his brother, James M. Buchanan. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Leaman Buchanan; a niece, Sharon Lee Buchanan; nephew, Mark Buchanan; and a great nephew, Nicholas Buchanan. He enjoyed the love and companionship of his brother-in-law, Marshall A. Leaman (Bev), a number of Nancy's cousins, and a host of friends, who have been enjoyable and faithful through the years.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>He was born in Columbia, SC and attended Rosewood Elementary School, Hand Junior High, and graduated from Dreher High School. He attended Clemson University and received his degree from Wofford College. He obtained his Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from The University of South Carolina and was a licensed nursing home administrator. He worked in State Government for over 30 years with the SC Commission for the Blind, Midlands Center, Mental Health as Administrator of CM Tucker Center, and the Director of the crippled children's program with SCDHEC.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church for over 50 years and participated in such organizations as the Optimists Club, The Eastern Columbia Lions Club, and The Model Railroad Club. He was a licensed HAM radio operator, WB4UTH. In his youth, he was active in scouting and in the summers worked at Camp Barstow. In recent years, he was active in Ski for Light for the Blind and traveled to Norway to participate in cross country skiing. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed horticulture and cooking. Rafael was his guide dog and constant companion for over 12 years and was obtained from Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael, CA.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Memorials may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, Attn: Donations Department, PO Box 151200, San Rafael, CA 94915-1200 or Ski for Light, Inc., 1455 W Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55408-2648.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal>Due to the current pandemic, a private entombment will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
