They're completely different, but they can potentially complement each other. I'm Mahika, a PhD student from Cornell, and I’m exploring ways in which screen readers can benefit from artificial intelligence (AI) technology, particularly in the form of a conversation.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;color:#1A1A1B'> </span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;color:#1A1A1B'>Imagine reading text messages on your phone with VoiceOver. A friend sends you a photo. What if you can then ask VoiceOver, "What's in the photo?" VoiceOver would respond: "A woman holding a basket." Then you could ask, "What's in the basket?" and VoiceOver responds: “Oranges and Bananas.” In another scenario, imagine you ask the screen reader to recall a recent web page you visited. This may seem strange today, but technology is evolving and this will be possible in the coming years.</span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;color:#1A1A1B'> </span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:14.0pt;color:#1A1A1B'>I would love to set up a 1 hour chat to hear your thoughts and wisdom regarding screen readers, voice assistants, and everything in between.
