She was the first African-American to join the NFB of SC about 5 decades ago. She also served as Secretary for the Columbia Chapter, Federation Center of the Blind, NFB of SC state board and the Rocky Bottom board. As Chairperson of the We Care Committee, Dorothy Barksdale cared for many of our members and others. She also was recognized on the Columbia Housing Authority's Wall of Fame. She will need to be replaced for the upcoming Devotional and Memorial Service at the state convention.
