The National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina Successful Transitions Program is seeking dedicated professionals committed to empowering, educating, and mentoring transition-age blind students as they prepare for independence, employment, and post-secondary success. We are recruiting individuals who value structured instruction, mentorship, and skill development in a supportive environment focused on measurable outcomes for students. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor\u2019s degree in education, special education, rehabilitation services, social work, psychology, human services, counseling, or a closely related field that qualifies an individual to provide transition services to youth, or at least five years of documented experience working directly with blind or low-vision students. Due to current staffing needs and student supervision requirements during travel and overnight programming, we are especially encouraging male applicants to apply in order to strengthen gender representation on our team. This position requires regular statewide travel, participation in overnight student programming, and the ability to supervise and support students in community-based environments. Transition Specialists provide direct instruction, mentorship, and case coordination for blind and low-vision students ages 13 through 21, support independent living and workplace readiness skills, collaborate with families and community partners, and assist students in developing confidence, self-advocacy, and leadership abilities. Services provided align with Pre-Employment Transition Services and include job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, counseling on opportunities for post-secondary education, workplace readiness training, and instruction in self-advocacy. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, strong communication skills, flexibility, and a commitment to student growth and independence.
