Greetings,
The National Federation of the Blind Board of Cleveland wishes all
mother’s a “Happy Mother’s Day”. We hope your day is very special and
memorable. The birthstone for May is emerald: which is bright and
green in color. This color depicts mothers: extraordinary and free
spirited.
The National Federation of the Blind of Cleveland is extending a
cordial invitation to all Federationists to participate in a New
Member Orientation Teleconference Call that will take place on May 14,
2018 at 5:00 to 6:30 PM. We will hear from John Pare, Executive
director for Advocacy and Policy, Lou Ann Blake, Deputy Director of
The Jernigan Institute, Ron Brown, Second Vice President of The
National Board of Directors, Ohio Board of directors and more.
The NFB Gear has been ordered and will be here in ten days. Again, our
apologies for the inconvenience. The Branding of the NFB is important
and Cleveland wanted to adhere to its policy in keeping the logo and
the tagline “live the life you want” included on the Gear. If you have
not paid for your polo, and or T Shirt, please bring your funds to the
next meeting on May 18, 2018 at 3:00 to 5:00 PM at 1909 E 101st
Street, Cleveland Ohio 44106. Note! The Fund Raising Committee is
working on the jackets and more details will be coming forth.
On Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 7:00 PM, The Ohio Blind Senior Committee
will have a teleconference call discussing mobility. Please look out
for the announcement with more details coming.
Attention! Attention! The last day to preregister for the National
Federation of the Blind 2018 National Convention is May 31, 2018. If
you are attending, you might want to consider taking advantage of the
preregistration. The preregistration is $25.00 and the banquet is
$65.00. However, on-site registration is $30.00 and the banquet is
$70.00.
Calling all Cleveland members! The Cleveland Chapter is requesting
your participation in attending several outreach efforts in attending
neighboring community centers. Cleveland has been requested to come
and provide Awareness to Seniors on May 16th and May 23rd. If you are
available, please contact Suzanne Turner at 216-990-6199. Materials
will be provided to the seniors along with demonstrating hand on
technology during a presentation on “blindness”.
Cleveland’s monthly Chapter meeting will be a cool one. I am glad
you’ve asked why. We will have a guest speaker along with cool ice
cream for a treat. Do not miss this meeting. It will be awesome. We
meet monthly at the Cleveland Sight Center located at 1909 E 101st
Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Bring a friend,
relative or both on May 18, 2018.

Travel Tips from Cheryl.
1. Be attentive of your children and grandchildren.
Nobody likes a seat kicker.
2. Leave the perfume at home, it may give others a headache.
Use a small amount of a relaxing essential oil, if necessary.
3. Bring your own comfort items.
Blanket, travel pillow and noise cancelling headphones
4. be aware of personal space violations.
Always, always ask the passenger behind you before you recline the
seat and share the arm rest.
Finally, have a great time traveling remember, be sincerely polite,
use empathy and patience.
