March 2019 Chapter Minutes

 

Cleveland met on Friday, March 15, 2019 at the Cleveland Sight Center. There
were 28 in attendance, including three guest.

 

William Turner opened the meeting, Ed Louden led the Pledge of Allegiance,
William Turner led the  NFB Pledge and President Suzanne Turner provided
information on our members who are healing.

 

President Suzanne Turner provided President Remarks:

A: Pre-authorized Campaign, 

The Cleveland Chapter's first withdraw was made out of the checking account
for March paying into the Preauthorize Campaign of $10.00 monthly.

 

B: National Convention, 

the President provided an update and the difference of the cost from 2018 to
2019, which is around 20 dollars. The Convention will be in Las Vegas from
July 7, 2019 to July 12, 2019. 

 

C: State Convention, 

The State of Ohio Convention will be held in Columbus Ohio at the
Columbus/Worthington Doubletree Hotel from November 1, 2019 to November 3,
2019. Cleveland will charter a bus. 

 

D: Bus to Columbus,

The tennative price of the bus is 65 dollars per person. More information
will be provided at the April 19, 2019 meeting. 

 

E: Sharad Brown,

The President spoke to the Office Manager and he will be invited to a
meeting to address the National Legislative Initiatives. 

  

Fund Raisers:

 

A: Piggy Raffel: 

Tickets were distributed and purchased to support the State Fundraiser.

 

B: Malley's Chocolates Easter Fundraiser:

There were no group interest in this Fundraiser.

Secretary Report:

Cheryl Fields who is the Chapter's  Recording Secretary has been out ill.
Therefore, the President email and put the February 2019 minutes on the
voice box  for members to review. However, over half of the membership did
not review them.

The President inquired how she could assist members in taking ownership of
reading the minutes. It was suggested to post them earlier.  So, they will
be available 2 weeks prior to the April meeting, since the Columbus Seminar
is vastly approaching. The voice box will be updated on April 12, 2019.

Therefore, the  Chapter will vote on the February and March 2019 minutes in
April.

 

Treasury Report:

 

Natassha Ricks, Treasurer provided the financial report for the savings and
checking accounts. She also took dues from members. She reported that 10
dollars were withdrawn for the Preauthorize Campaign and 3 dollars were
deducted for the March 2019 bank statement. Also, she received the split the
pot full amount. Bill who was a visitor, donated his portion back to the
Chapter.

 

Sandy Krems, who is the Community Engagement Committee Chair, provided
announcements. She gave Cheryl Fields the floor to talk about the Apple
Store providing accessibility training for the following week. Individuals
must schedule an appointment for help. Sandy Krems provided the information
about the Read Across America event at St. Adalbert Elementary School, the
date, time and members who would attend. She also inquired if anyone wanted
to participate in the  Diversity Run. She will provide more detail at the
next meeting. 

 

Gloria Conway who is the chairperson for the Senior Committee Reported
information on the upcoming Senior Day details. She will contact the
Cleveland City Department of Aging and Disability to gain details of having
a table for us to pass out literature. The event is on May 21, 2019. Members
must register for this event. Gloria also spoke and invited members to
attend the monthly conference call called Sharing Solutions for Vision loss;
which will be on March 17, 2019 at 7:00 PM.

 

All of the Cleveland Chapter Committee Chairs gave their 2019 reports on
their long-term and short-term goals. Then the President allowed members ten
minutes to join their choice of Committee to serve.  The Committees are,

Legislative

Senior

Community Engagement

Membership

Recreation and Special Events

 

Lastly, the Chapter had a building exercise. Members pared into two by two
and had to come up with a song that were familiar to both and preform that
song for the Chapter. It was a lot of fun and those who did not know each
other, they do now.

Remarks:

 

Three female bio's will be put on the voice box for those who do not have
access to email..

 

The April Chapter meeting will be held on April 19, 2019 at the Cleveland
Sight Center, located at 1909 E 101 Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44106. The time
is 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. 

 

However, the May 17, 2019 meeting will be held at Saint Augustine Church,
2486 West 14 Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44109, which has programs for the blind
and deaf. They were gracious enough to welcome us in May. The time will be
5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. More details will be forth coming.
