April Cleveland Chapter Minutes

The Cleveland Chapter met on April 19, 2019 at the Cleveland Sight Center. There were 27 in attendance with four joining the Chapter; Connie Jefferson, Harold Jefferson, Jim Weiss and Destany Mathews. William Turner welcomed members and visitors. He also led the National Federation of the Blind Pledge. Then President, Suzanne led the pledge of allegiance. Moreover, Recording Secretary, Cheryl and President Suzanne informed members of those who were shut-in  and in bereavement.

President Suzanne brought a vote for the February and March minutes to the floor. They were voted and carried. Our Treasurer, Natassha was absent and so the Treasury report will be provided during the May 2019 Chapter meeting.


President Suzanne made several announcements that the Chapter weighed in on.



The first was social time.

It was decided that the Cleveland Chapter will gather for socialization with food, one hour prior to the Chapter meetings.



Secondly, It was announced that our May 2019 Chapter meeting will be in the community.

The location is at Saint Augustine Church.

It is located at, 2486 West 14 Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44109. We will gather between five to seven o’clock. The Church will provide light refreshments.



Thirdly, information of the 2019 National Convention was provided. Fourthly, Information of the 2019 State of Ohio Convention was provided. The location is DoubleTree by Hilton Columbus/Worthington, Columbus Ohio.

The price of the hotel is $89.00 per night. To make your reservation, call 614-885-3334.

Cleveland is chartering a bus to the State of Ohio Convention. The price is $65.00 for a round trip. To reserve your seat, a down payment of $25.00 is due by June 21, 2019.

The final payment is due on August 16, 2019.

Next, President, Suzanne provided Wilbert to talk about a fundraiser.

It is to sale popcorn.

The Board of Directors will review this further and bring it back to the body at the May meeting.



Gloria, who is the Chairperson of the Senior Committee reported that Cleveland will not participate in the City of Cleveland’s Senior Day this year. She will investigate for the Chapter to attend next year.



Sandy, who is the Community Engagement Chairperson reported the upcoming activities.

On April 30, 2019, Cleveland will hold a conference call with RTA,

On May 28, 2019, volunteers are needed for The Food Bank.

And on June 1, 2019, the Cleveland Sight Center’s White Cane event is being held at its location.

If anyone would like to attend, Sandy is taking a sign-up list. Sandy mentioned volunteering with the Sterling Center as well. She will follow-up on this activity if anyone is willing to volunteer.



Ali, who is the Chairperson for the Legislative Committee along  with president, Suzanne provided insight on the Columbus and Legislature Seminars.



Lastly, the former Community Engagement Chairperson, Cheryl provided an update on the relationship with St Adalbert Elementary School. She, Lou and guide dog Mateo  participated with two classrooms of children on their book discussion about a guide dog and a blind character.

Finally, Connie and Harold Jefferson will have their Membership Seromony during the May meeting. President, Suzanne presented them as new members and the Chapter voted and it carried.
