** Dear Highbrook Lodge Community,

The past 14 months have been challenging to say the least, but I find myself cautiously optimistic, and hopeful that we will be able to reunite once again in the future with as much vibrance as before. Throughout all of the obstacles, our community has proven itself to be resilient, compassionate, and generous, and I admire both the strength and the vulnerability each and every one of you has shown during this time.

The Leisure & Lifestyle Services Department at Cleveland Sight Center has undergone a series of changes in the past year, as many others have. We said “see you soon!” to Jenny and Vince, and welcomed me—Bobbie Szabo—back to the family in a new way. Throughout it all, our trusty Camp Ranger, Kevin, has been holding down the fort!

Furthermore, we have explored a variety of virtual camp and recreation opportunities, which have been more successful than we could possibly have imagined! From Virtual Highbrook Weekends to Improv, Ballroom Dance, and Speaker Series events over Zoom, to sending packages of art supplies and hot chocolate packages to clients, we have adapted to the changing environment in compelling ways. Since September, we have provided over 2,500 client and camper experiences.

We are committed to fulfilling the needs and desires of our community, and as such, we have developed an exciting summer of virtual AND in-person events for both adults and youth! From day trips to our beloved Highbrook Lodge and field trips around Cleveland to the return of Recreation Tuesdays at CSC and Virtual Rec Wednesdays, we are sure to have something for everyone!

Meet Bobbie Szabo! Bobbie has been a member of the Highbrook Lodge family since 2014, when she began as a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed Cabin Counselor. After two years as an HBL staff member, another two summers as a volunteer, and two and a half years in the Peace Corps in Botswana as a Youth Development Officer, she still has not lost that energy and passion for the Cleveland Sight Center and Highbrook communities.

Bobbie joined the CSC team full-time in September of 2020, and she is honored and thrilled to be working with the clients and campers she has known and admired for so long.

When Bobbie isn’t running through the halls of CSC in costume or traipsing through the woods at Highbrook covered in mud, she can be found dancing her heart out, kayaking on the Cuyahoga, thrift shopping or planning her next travel destination.
2021 Summer Day Camp & Field Trips
While Highbrook will not be open for overnight sessions during the summer of 2021, the Leisure & Lifestyle Services Department is beyond thrilled to announce our exciting series of recreation and camp events below.

***Please note that all participants of in-person recreation, summer day camp or field trips will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination PRIOR to attending any programs. Proof should be emailed or mailed to Bobbie Szabo.

Recreation Tuesdays:
Every Tuesday, we will have in-person recreation programs at Cleveland Sight Center. Programs will include:
* Ballroom and Line Dance
* Improv
* Piano
* Music Group
* Games/Chess/Crochet/Knitting, and more!

Virtual Recreation Wednesdays:
Our virtual programs will be offered consistently on Wednesdays at 10 am, 2 pm and 4pm; as well as bi-weekly or monthly on other days of the week. Programs will include:
* Coffee Chat
* Trivia
* Wacky Wednesday
* Improv
* Piano
* Speaker Series

Participants do not need to RSVP for virtual programming.

Day Camps + Field Trips:
Field trips cost $15 and day camp trips cost $10. Money must be paid upfront. Participants are not considered registered until they have RSVP’d, paid the fee and sent a copy of their COVID-19 vaccination (vaccination record not required for youth).
* Wednesday, June 2nd: Field Trip to Baseball Game (adults)
* Friday, June 18th: Day Camp (adults)
* Saturday, June 26th: Field Trip to Holden Arboretum (youth)
* Friday, July 2nd: Good Times III Cruise (adults)
* Friday, July 9th: Day Camp (adults)
* Saturday, July 17th: Day Camp (youth)
* Friday, July 23rd: Botanical Gardens (adults)
* Friday, July 30th: Day Camp (adults)
* Saturday, August 7th: Day Camp (youth)
