Ohio members and Friends,

It is very sad news today that we have lost an anchor in the Ohio Affiliate.

Annette was the glue that held the Cuyahoga Chapter together. Her members held her in high regard, which was wonderful to see. I visited their meetings often and was welcomed at all times. She always was up to date on federation business and walked and talked the philosophy as well.

I will miss her soft spoken voice and gentle spirit at Affiliate meetings, Christmas parties and other gatherings will not be the same without her.

I am so glad that we have a recording of her doing what she loved and that was providing valuable information to the healthcare and other entities abreast on how to work with blind seniors.

Please, if there is anything that Cleveland can do for the family or Chapter, do not hesitate to call on us.

May she rest in peace!

Suzanne

Hello NFB of Ohio family,

I am very sad to hear about the passing of Annette Anderson. I unfortunately did not have the opportunity to know her very well, but we did interact on many occasions. Her and I always laughed about the fact that our names were the same. The emails that we sent to one another, we always signed by the other Annette. so, I know she had a wonderful sense of humor. But, I also knows that she had a very kind heart. During the pandemic, I posted on this list a problem I was having on behalf of my mother. Since the library was closed, my mom was unable to receive any talking books, and because of her, having to be at home on her own, she felt the impact of not being able to read greatly. my mom does not have very many technology skills, and is not able to use BARD. I did not have the equipment, or the know how, to get books for her myself. When I posted this problem and asked for solutions, Annette stepped up right away and offered to download Cartridges of books for my mom so that she would have something to pass the days while still confined at home. Her and my mother spoke on the phone, and she picked out mini books for mom and kept her supplied until the library re-opened. The fact that she did this for a perfect Stranger, tells us everything we need to know about , the kind of person she was. Art Federation family will sorely miss her.

My prayers go out to all of you that are filling her loss today.

The Other Annette.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Everyday we raise the expectations of blind people because we know that low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want, blindness is not what holds you back.

We have just learned that Annette Anderson died last evening. She had undergone a procedure to replace a heart valve last Thursday, but she came through the surgery well. I talked with her that day. We have no further information about this tragedy. When I came into the Federation in 1974 Annette was an active member, and she has been an active leader and member ever since. She was president of the Cuyahoga County Chapter. We hope to learn more information and will pass it along as we get it.
