Happy Labor Day!

Today, as we celebrate Labor Day, we honor the contributions, achievements, and dignity of workers across our nation. Labor Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of hard work and the labor movement’s efforts to advance fair wages, better working conditions, reasonable hours, and greater opportunities for working people. It is also a powerful reminder that when people come together, organize, advocate, and work toward a common goal, meaningful change is possible.

These values are at the heart of the National Federation of the Blind. Every day, blind people across Ohio and throughout our nation work to break down barriers, challenge misconceptions, create opportunities, and build a future where blind people can live, work, learn, and contribute on terms of equality.

That is why we continue to advocate for the elimination of subminimum wages for people with disabilities. Everyone deserves the opportunity to earn fair and equitable wages for their work. As we reflect on wages, employment, and the dignity of labor, we must continue advocating for an end to policies and practices that allow people with disabilities to be paid less than the minimum wage. Blind Ohioans and all people with disabilities deserve meaningful employment, fair wages, and the same economic opportunities available to everyone else.

As we celebrate the contributions of workers, we are also celebrating something very special in our Federation family: the 80th National Federation of the Blind of Ohio State Convention!

We are thrilled to welcome so many members, friends, vendors, and supporters this year. Your presence, hard work, advocacy, and commitment are what make our movement strong. Just as workers have accomplished more by standing together, our Federation achieves more when we unite around a shared purpose.

We cannot wait to come together to celebrate 80 years of the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, reconnect with old friends, welcome new faces, learn from one another, recognize our accomplishments, and continue the important work ahead.

This Labor Day, let us celebrate not only the work people do, but also the power of people working together. Our collective efforts have brought us this far, and together, there is no limit to what we can accomplish.
