The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and
all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination,
and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.

Community Town Hall: 50th Anniversary of IDEA & the Future of Education for
Learners with Visual Impairment and DeafBlindness
Date & Time
Dec 1, 2025 07:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)
Description
Let’s celebrate, learn, and take action! The Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA) was enacted November 29, 1975. This year, we come
together to celebrate 50 years of progress and to discuss current and
proposed changes at the U.S. Department of Education that may impact
essential rights, protections, and services for infants, toddlers,
children, and youth with visual impairments, deafblindness, and other
disabilities. Everyone is welcome! We invite families, teachers, teachers
in training, self-advocates, administrators, friends, and members of the
media! When you register, you’ll have the chance to submit questions for
the panel. After the Town Hall, you’ll receive a link to the recording
along with resources and easy action steps to spread the word about access
to education for learners with visual impairment and deafblindness.
