Labor Day is our day because it's the day when we stand in solidarity with
artists, educators, and all Blind workers. Most blind artists are
unemployed or underemployed--Darkroom Ballet stands in opposition to that.

gesture, each breath, and each circle we create, we transform a tragic
moment in our city’s history into an embodied offering of bearing witness,
resilience, and unity."

The Table of Silence Project 9/11 has become part of how New York City
commemorates this day each year. Buglisi Dance Theatre is committed to an

Identity Soup is an invitation to self-knowledge in the form of a fully
virtual, but live, dance performance.

Identity Soup is one Irish dancer’s attempt to navigate the growing
pressure for artists to explicitly center their marginalized identities in
their work in a way that is easily understandable to audiences. Sometimes,
instead of art, it feels like a soup of all the different identities and
labels. And not the nourishing kind of soup either, more like the kind of
soup where all the good bits have been stripped away and you’re stuck with
some broth and sad vegetables.

The show is also an exploration of what is possible in virtual performance.
Throughout the show, we will explore the artistic possibility of creating
meaningful virtual performance for both audience and performers.

Audio Description Orientation Event at the Smuin Center for Dance. Led by
season Audio Describer Ian Buchanan, this workshop is designed specifically
for blind and low vision patrons to explore ballet terminology, movement,
and spatial orientation through description and touch to help enrich the
live audio-described performance experience.

We are also thrilled to share that Smuin Company Artist Margot Aknin will

College and multiple certifications through the American College of Sports
Medicine with special focus in biomechanics.

She is the Co-Director, along with choreographer Heather Shaw, of
Telephone, an educational documentary film that explores artistic
philosophy pertaining to audio description and documenting the multiple
artistic forms of audio description for dance.
