You sit there learning algebra, calculus, chemistry, the kind of biology that researchers care about, reading shakespeare, and memorizing history facts... But all the k-12 high school education in the world won't help you when it comes to ... understanding and connecting with horses. The practical experience, the kind of knowledge gained from hands-on interaction with these animals, is something that formal education often overlooks. The lessons learned in dealing with horses—patience, awareness, and maintaining composure—are invaluable and can be far more impactful in certain situations than any textbook knowledge.<br>So while the education system prepares us for many things, and at other times is a huge waste of time, it’s the real-life experiences and interactions, like those with Moon and Jazzy, that truly shape our understanding and capabilities. It's important to recognize and value these lessons as they provide a different kind of wisdom and growth.<br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, Jul 24, 2024 at 9:26 PM Holly Fisher <<a href="mailto:chromedcamo@gmail.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">chromedcamo@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto">You definitely have a deep & instant connection with horses. So now when I hold an apple slice in my teeth, I do not have to bend down and tilt my head up to let him take it from my mouth from between my teeth. Now, Moon lifts his face right up to my mouth and gently takes the apple slice. No more bending down for me! <div>next: someone had the fan in his stall hanging down pretty low, supported by straps. So he would turn his head and he would pull, play with, and put the strap in his mouth and chew on it. I thought he was going to maybe pull the fan down, so I taught myself how to get him to open his mouth for me. I gently put my fingers between his lips, and pressed and rubbed gently on his lips and gums. Then he let go of the strap. Then I could put both my hands and part of my forearm under his chin where a halter would go. When I gently applied pressure, lifted and gently turned his head towards me... I felt the bones in his jaw. they are long and straight and they run on either side of his face. he then faced me instead and licked my hands. And when I put my face near his, I guess he thought I still had some apple slices in the bag, because he licked my face and mouth--and I gently gave him kisses. Then he turned and wanted his rump scratched. I also took a moment to try to learn what the people in the blind equestrian community facebook group, email list, and zoom meeting were talking about last night. They were discussing massaging horses. So when Moon turned his butt towards me for me to scratch... I pressed my hands gently against him, pressing them into his body as I slid my hands along the top of his rump and his sides... and I found to my delight that I could easily feel how the muscles run, in his body, under his skin. So then when I massaged him, I went with how the muscles go on his hind end and his back and sides. Once, today, shortly after I let him take apple slices from my mouth, he accidentally scraped my lips and tongue with his teeth. I guess he thought I had more apple slices to give him. It just felt like a brushburn. It didn't hurt. I just ignored that accidental nip and then I scratched his favorite spots. </div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sun, Jul 7, 2024 at 6:51 PM Holly Fisher <<a href="mailto:chromedcamo@gmail.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">chromedcamo@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto"><div>Damn, you nailed it when you said you feel a connection with horses on a level that most people who just ride horses will never experience. All the horses are happily eating closely all around your body. But you Sir realize the key to earning a horses trust & friendship. </div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Don't let anybody fool you, horses & all animals are very telepathic. For example: River, the large pony that I ride sometimes, she can be quite feisty. At first she was quite antisocial with me. And then one day, a few weeks ago, she was in a different stall with the kind of door that let her put her head out a good ways. Before, she was in a stall that had vertical bars on the door. So River was in a different stall. I went up to her and let her sniff me--and she did. To make a long story short, over time I got her to be more and more gentle with me. Horses like it when you let them show you affection in their own natural ways, and just gently correcting them if they are too rough. Within two or so hours, River was eagerly grabbing my hands with her mouth and licking my hands. When I kissed her nose and muzzle, she put her mouth up to min and rather enthhusiastically gave me kisses. It was a bit unexpected. The next day when she did the same thing, she was much more gentle the next time she put her face up to mine. I can't fully explain it, but horses just seem to know that I like them and that I understand them and that I'm able to connect with them on a level that most people who just ride horses--do not.<div><br></div><div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sat, Jul 6, 2024 at 6:52 PM Holly Fisher <<a href="mailto:chromedcamo@gmail.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">chromedcamo@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto">That is very cool! I explained our non profit organization & asked if it was possible or how they felt about us using the name Equine Eyes for the name of our organization. Their camera products are actually really awesome & I mentioned in my email that I will return to buy one of their cameras so I can provide around the clock surveillance on our mini horses. It would be unbelievable if they don't mind our names being so similar & donate a camera system. Only in my wildest dreams. LoL! I just bend down, tilt my head up, and he figured out that he could take a piece of apple from my mouth as I hold it between my teeth. He must really like me. Today: I stepped away from Moon to pet Grant, an older horse. And after a few minutes, Moon let out a loud winny-sound. I went back to him and he eagerly licked my hands and wanted scratched. When I did the same thing some time later, Moon did the samething... He made a loud winny-sound, presumably wanting me to go back and just stand there with him or he wanted more of my attention. <div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Sun, Jun 30, 2024 at 9:48 AM Holly Fisher <<a href="mailto:chromedcamo@gmail.com" rel="noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer noreferrer" target="_blank">chromedcamo@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><p dir="ltr">Good video. You have plenty of space for a mini horse to be happy at your place. The only thing that could be a problem is your walnut tree. I don't know much about the different types of walnut trees, but black walnut are supposed to be toxic to horses, even just standing under the tree for shade. Don't take my word for it, we have a few walnut trees in our back pasture. Haven't had an horse get sick over walnuts in more than 30 years. Maybe consult a veterinarian about toxicity & your mini</p>
