To: nfb-texas members <members at nfb-texas.org>

Hi everyone,

I am happy to report that today the Austin chapter voted to offer one
lucky student financial assistance to Washington Seminar, Saturday
January 30 to Thursday, February 4. The chapter decided to make this
investment to help foster leadership, and to do our part to support
opportunities and learning for youth in Texas.

This application process is open to students 16 an older. The Austin
chapter will obtain parental consent forms and appropriate release
documentation if the student selected is younger than 18. To be
considered for this award, students must write a 300-500 word cover
letter, detailing why they would like to attend Washington Seminar
with the National Federation of the Blind. These letters should
include contact information for the student, and must be sent as
Microsoft Word attachments, no later than 11:59 PM Saturday, December
12. Letters should be sent to kimberly.aguillard at gmail.com.

The Austin chapter realizes this is a short turn-around, so we
appreciate your assistance in helping us distribute this information.
In the future, we will have more time to get the word out and
formalize the application process.

The Austin chapter Youth Leadership Committee will review the
applications and select one student to receive a free plane ticket,
and a small stipend. The state affiliate will provide a room, as well
as offer a mentor to guide the student through various activities.

In addition to attending the great gathering in meeting and all
appointments on Capitol Hill, the student will also be required to
attend the seminar of the National Association of Blind Students.

If you have questions, please email Kimberly privately.

Thanks very much, and Happy Thanksgiving.
