worth sharing from one of our Texas NFB scholarship winners.

Subject: [NFBT] Celebrating Black History Month- A message from our
DEI committee
To: member at nfbtx.org

Dear National Federation of the Blind Texas Family,

On behalf of our Diversity, Equity, and iInclusion committee, we want to
share a positive message for the start of Black History Month! This
February, we are celebrating not because a calendar is telling us to, but
because our community compels us to. Black History month is an annual
month-long celebration of achievements by African and or Black Americans.
We also love to acknowledge our allies and support! Every year our
community establishes a theme for the month. This year, the theme has been
announced and is Black Health and Wellness. There will be an emphasis on
examining how African and Black American healthcare has underserved our
community, but also the advancements that are now happening, while
celebrating the legacy of African and Black American contributors, leaders,
scholars, and practitioners in medicine.

This concept is not only relevant to our Federation´s Black community, but
the Federation as a whole. The NFBTX prides ourselves on our inclusivity of
not only the Black community, but any and all communities. We understand
that we still have work to do, but the active efforts are immense. With
that being said, The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee would like
to recognize all of our African and Black American members, leaders,
support and allies.

Please keep this in mind as we celebrate Black History Month with pride and
honor.

Black is Love, Blind is Beauty, and Diversity just is not diverse enough if
it does not include everyone!

Please remember we as the Diversity committee of Texas are always open to
suggestions, comments, support, and opportunities to learn. We look forward
to sharing more positive messages as the month progresses and beyond. If
you would like to share a message regarding Black History Month, please
email Demetria Ober at demetriao2000 at gmail.com

Again, let's come together in celebrating our thriving Black Community.

Sincerely,

Demetria Ober and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee
