Happy Friday,

I just wrote a letter to our chapter presidents, reminding them that our
affiliate is assisting as many as twelve people who wish to attend the
upcoming Washington Seminar. I have asked them to recommend members who
should be considered for assistance, and I wanted to let all of you know
that you should take the time to request that they recommend you if you
hope to receive assistance to attend. They must let me know about who has
requested assistance no later than 5:00 PM on December 1, and they may
notify chapter members of an earlier deadline that will allow them to get
your request to me on time. Please adhere to their deadline to help them
out.

To request assistance, contact your local chapter president using the
communication tool you and they generally use when contacting one another.
Let them know that you would like to be considered for assistance. They
will let you know whether or not they can recommend you. If they cannot,
they should let you know why. Keep in mind that a lot of people request
this assistance, and we don't have funding to take everyone. So, if you
aren't chosen this year, make a note to ask again next year.

In determining whether or not to request assistance, consider the following:

1. Assistance is limited to an airline ticket and a shared hotel room. We
don't generally pay for single rooms because it increases our cost, and we
have a budget.
2. The Washington Seminar involves a lot of walking. Everyone is welcome,
but if walking long distances is a problem for you, we suggest that you
consider picking a different event to help with.
3. Those who receive assistance are responsible for their own meals and
all local transportation.
4. Participants will be assigned to a team. A team leader will be
assigned, and most teams will consist of three or four people.
5. Some virtual training meetings will be offered before the seminar. If
you receive assistance, you should attend. If your schedule doesn't permit
you to attend in advance of the seminar, you should know that there will be
training opportunities during the seminar, and those who receive assistance
should attend those meetings.

If you don't receive assistance, you can still attend the seminar at your
own expense. However, as a reminder, I will need to know that you plan to
attend so I can assign you to a team. If you are planning to attend without
assistance, please get in touch with me via email or telephone by December
15. That will allow me to build our teams to include you. We love having
members who are passionate about attending and willing to spend their own
dollars to participate. So don't be shy. We definitely want to include you.

I can't speak for our local chapters, but some may provide assistance, so
check in with your chapter president to see if that is possible.

If you are selected to receive assistance from our affiliate, you will be
notified by December 8. That notification will contain information about
your next steps. If you don't happen to be selected this year, you will
also receive a notice thanking you for applying and encouraging you to
apply next year. Whether or not we are able to take you this year, please
know that you are a valued part of our community and I encourage you to
help with our legislative effort throughout the year.
