Good morning NFBTX members,

The NFB is slowly developing a national membership system. The latest development in this process is the "Members" link near the top of the NFB's home page "https://nfb.org/". This link will provide you with the opportunity to enter an ID and a Password. After that, you will have the opportunity to enter your contact information and see which chapter, affiliate, and divisions the NFB thinks you have joined. 

When you use the "Profile" tab to enter your contact information, This contact information will be entered into the developing NFB Portal membership database. Each chapter and division has a membership coordinator who will have access to this contact information. The Membership link will allow each member to keep their contact information current. Please note that the chapter or division membership coordinator is not informed when there is a change to a member's contact information. Since most chapter and division membership coordinators keep local membership information lists, it would be helpful that, when you update your contact information, a note to your membership coordinator saying that you updated your information would be helpful so that the information coordinator can keep their files current. Just let the coordinator know which items you changed, and the coordinator can copy the changes from the NFB portal database to their local files.

Please also note that you should have only one NFB contact information profile per member. For example, the NFB wants you to have only one email address. They do not want you to use a different email address for each chapter or division which you might join.

The "Membership" tab in the "membership" link contains the names of chapter, affiliate, and divisions you have joined. Note that when you change the contact information, the information in the NFB portal is also updated. You cannot update your chapter and division membership status, only the chapter or division membership coordinator can do that.

To keep your membership status current, you must pay dues to your chapter and/or division for each calendar year. If you are a member of a national division, you will need to pay dues separate from your chapter dues to maintain a current membership with the division as well. Contact the treasurer of your chapter and/or division for payment options. If you find discrepancies in membership information, contact the designated membership coordinator. 

Note that the chapter and division membership coordinators only have access to member contact information, and not to the more personal items that the profile may ask for, such as a member's birthdate.

The NFB portal is a great advance in trying to have accurate membership records, especially at the local level.
