Hello Jacob,

An impressive amount of stakeholder input is now reflected in the alternative scenarios for access to and around the U District station, opening in 2021. Together with our community, the city, transit agencies, and others, we have prioritized the desired qualities of the adjacent streets to support all modes: pedestrians, bikes, transit, vehicles and freight.

We ask you now to confirm these objectives, long-term visions, and implementation steps proposed for The Ave, Brooklyn Avenue, NE 43rd & NE 45th Streets. Please share your thoughts in our final online survey by June 30th.

Since our last update, we have been very busy with the following events:

Design Charrette

With broad-based participation by community, city, agencies, and organizations, we hosted a three-hour design charrette (a collaborative workshop) last month to focus on the design of key streets in the station area to support the projected pedestrian volumes, efficient transit routing and access to the station for bikes and vehicles.

U District Streetfair

At the nation's longest-running streetfair last month, we joined the <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-i/> U District Community Council, <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-d/> U District Small Businesses, and <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-h/> U District Advocates at our booth beside the <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-k/> Parklet, where we presented the latest scenarios for mobility and collected feedback in a fun, interactive poll by ping pong ball. Receiving a vote every 20 seconds during the fair, the results show a strong direction for our mobility plan. <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-u/> View the results.

We could not have reached as many fellow citizens, answered their questions, and collected this many votes without the wonderful crew of volunteers we had at the booth, bringing together the community under one tent. Thank you!

Community Workshop 3

 <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-o/>

On May 30th, the final <http://email.udistrictmobility.org/t/y-l-ktjydid-tyujjkiyjd-b/> Community Workshop in our series was very well attended by 85+ stakeholders, when we presented draft conceptual designs for key streets in the U District to complete around the opening of the light rail station in 2021. Small groups reviewed the plans and brainstormed on how to improve them.

Next Up: The U District Mobility Plan

All of the feedback and ideas from three Community Workshops, three Online Surveys, the Streetfair Booth, a Design Charrette, and from dozens of community meetings will come together to inform the pending U District Mobility Plan, which will guide the development of streets in the station area in the short and long terms.

Stay tuned for the release of the plan next month and stay involved in this community-led process to make it a reality. We need your continued support.

Forward this email to anyone who might be interested in the project by clicking the forward button below. Together, we can improve how we all get around the U District.

Thank you,

U District Mobility Group
