Thanks Anna,

To clarify, this is not any kind of formal hearing. The Pedestrian Access Advisory Committee is facilitated by Mike Shaw, Seattle Department of Transportation ADA coordinator. This committee is not an appointed group. It is made up of people who just want to be on it. There are people with a broad range of disabilities on the committee and usually a few abled staff from the city and a couple other places. Typically there are no city council members or department directors in attendance. The meetings happen quarterly. There are usually presentations about a number of subjects and then there’s some time for participants to make comments. I think there is a staff person who takes notes. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings. I attend them pretty regularly. If you go you can sign up to get notifications about upcoming meetings. That’s basically how do you become a part of this committee.

This meeting will be held on Monday, July 22, from 10 AM to noon in the Seattle Municipal Tower, 700 5th Ave., conference room 4050/4060 (40th floor). There are three topics on the agenda that morning; introduction of a new Department of Transportation sidewalk repair program manager staff person, sidewalk snow removal policies and procedures and the N. E. 43rd St. improvement project. The snow removal issue is scheduled from 10:10 AM to 11:20 AM.

As I said, anyone is welcome to attend. I will post a reminder in July which will include directions to the room and which elevator to use to get there.

We're also thinking of creating some sort of display to present to the City the number of people impacted. So we'll keep you posted as we get that idea ironed out.
