In this update, you’ll see what we’re studying to improve bus reliability and access along Rainier Ave S, info on previous outreach and what’s already happening on Rainier, and timeline updates.

WHAT IMPROVEMENTS ARE WE STUDYING?

By early 2020, we expect to finalize what we plan to move further into design.

PREVIOUS OUTREACH
Last year we (the Seattle Department of Transportation) partnered with King County Metro to share concepts and collect feedback from people who live, work, and travel along the Route 7/future RapidRide R Line.

We worked with the Department of Neighborhoods to conduct outreach in multiple languages and reach people who may not otherwise have the chance to provide input. We learned more about community needs and priorities and collected feedback about RapidRide Rainier design concepts. Based on that feedback, we developed the list of potential improvements above. TIMELINE CHANGES
During early program planning, SDOT and King County Metro anticipated upgrading the Route 7 to RapidRide as soon as 2021. Based on an assessment of the Levy to Move Seattle and King County Metro’s proposed Capital Improvement Program (CIP), we now plan to make improvements to bus reliability and access by 2022 and Metro plans to open the RapidRide R Line<https://seattle.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8f083272c8b4530ae8b331013&id=bb1e7a5037&e=6107dc4d59> in 2024 .

WHAT BUS IMPROVEMENTS ARE ALREADY HAPPENING?
We're working closely with the Vision Zero team to improve safey on Rainier Ave S and to keep buses moving at the same time. You may have noticed new bus lanes out there! We installed bus lanes in sections Rainier within the Othello and Rainier Beach neighborhoods and we're installing more next year. ROUTE 7 TRANSIT-PLUS MULTIMODAL CORRIDOR
Metro Route 7 is one of the highest-ridership routes in Seattle, serving 11,000 daily riders and a wide variety of destinations including schools, community centers, grocery stores, homes, and parks. While Route 7 buses are scheduled to come every 10 minutes or faster throughout most of the day, street conditions can cause delay.
