Hi,
I’m wondering if any of you are going on tomorrow’s tour of the three new light rail stations. I know that Jacob has to work at the ballpark tomorrow. I’m not sure at this point if I’m going but I hope someone from the chapter will be there.
Marci

> Subject: Final instructions for Northgate Familiarization Event
>
>
> Hi all. First, thank you so much for agreeing to attend Sound Transit’s Northgate familiarization event. We are very proud of the progress we are making to improve access for passengers with disabilities and we are interested in your feedback about what works for you and what could be better. Most of all, we hope you will feel more comfortable using Link light rail for some of your trips in the future.
> On a personal note, I am recovering from surgery on my leg and will need to be more stationary during this event than I would like. This means that I will sometimes be sitting on a bench and I invite each of you to find me and give me any feedback about the stations. Here is a picture for those of you who don’t know me, though thanks to COVID, my hair is much longer! I also recognize that this picture is not useful for everyone. Just ask for me!

> What: Familiarization Event for the Northgate Link Extension Stations (Northgate, Roosevelt, and U District)
> When: September 1st, 1:00 – 4:00
> Where: Northgate Link light rail station, 10200 1st. Avenue NE
> Important: This is a progressive tour that will start at the Northgate Link light rail station and progress through the Roosevelt and U District stations, returning to Northgate at the end. Accessible buses will be available to transport people through this progressive tour. Please note that if you join us after we leave the Northgate station, it will be your responsibility to catch up with us at the other stations. See my phone number at the bottom of this message in case you need to call or text me.
> COVID precautions: All participants will be required to wear face coverings and everyone is urged to maintain social distancing of six feet when possible.
> Restrooms: Restrooms will only be available at the North gate station, at the start and end of the tour.
> Accessible features: While the purpose of this event is to get familiar with our new rail stations, we want to bring particular attention to features of the stations that make them more accessible and easier to navigate by passengers with disabilities. Here are the features we will explore:
> · Clear paths of travel into and out of the stations;
> · Curb ramps;
> · Detectible warning strips at curb ramps and on the platform and bus bay edges;
> · Vertical conveyance options (stairs, escalators, elevators);
> · Fare paid zone including tactile and visual signage (a new feature);
> · Signage in general;
> · Tactile wayfinding strips for linear travel through the station
> · Waiting pads (corduroy pavers) on the platform that designate where train doors will open;
> · Tactile maps posted as temporary signs for this event only;
> · Connectivity with other local transit options and parking facilities.
>
> Transit connections to Northgate: The following are the local buses that serve the Northgate transit center. Note that this is the original transit center currently in use and is located about 100 feet from the new station and transit center. Sound Staff will be available to direct people from the bus stop to the station or provide an escort as needed.
