Hi!

My name is Abby. I am a legally blind yoga teacher. I have been
practicing for 20 years, and got certified to teach over 6 years ago. I
felt that a lot of yoga spaces were not inclusive to blind and VI people,
and have since straddled this really interesting world of teaching classes
for sighted people and then teaching classes for blind people. I have over
800 RYT hours of yoga training, and have studied in India several times.

Really, there is a lot of misconception in the sighted community about
blind people being able to do yoga, even in accessible yoga groups.

My goal in this class is to bring sighted and blind /vi yoga practitioners
together to dispel a lot of this stigma. An integrated class! I will
just be teaching how I teach blind students.

Unfortunately I haven’t lived in Seattle in quite some time, so I don’t
personally know a lot of blind folks still in Seattle! I’m looking for
anyone blind/vi over age 16 who has been cleared by their doctor to
practice yoga. Sighted friends and partners are also welcome. Maximum 24
participants in total (blind and sighted)

Because I know it can be a lot with balance and blindness, this class
won’t include standing balance postures. Perhaps in the future we can
explore that! We will do a lot of kneeling, sitting, patterns and limited
standing postures.

I am booking a yoga studio in the frelard neighborhood for us to practice
in, close to bus routes. I will be available before the class to help
students get situated. All levels are welcome. I will be explaining
everything in detail. Blind students are encouraged to get there early and
to sit up front.

I will also want to know if anyone has scent allergies!

My tentative date suggestion is Saturday morning July 16. i think 10am
start time is great a Saturday morning class.
