Dear Jacob,

We know that frequent and reliable transit is one of the most effective ways to create equitable, thriving communities, and fight climate change. In that spirit, Front and Centered is launching the Washington Transit Access Map (WA TAM), to provide communities with a tool to advocate for better transit across the state.

WA TAM reveals that Washingtonians experience drastic inequalities in reliable transit service. Nearly 70% of Seattleites can count on a bus or train that comes every 15 minutes while in Vancouver it’s only 19%. And in Tacoma and Spokane that number drops to 3 and 4 percent.

As we near the 2023 Legislative Session in January, WA TAM – along with our new Transportation Justice Agenda for Washington State – will be helpful tools and guides to move us toward just transportation policies and investments. Our sweeping Transportation Justice Agenda aims to reorient the way Washington invests our transportation dollars and prioritizes safety with clear standards for improving transit and safe sidewalks and crosswalks.

WA TAM follows on the tracks of another ground-breaking resource, the <https://frontandcentered.nationbuilder.com/r?u=0zLq0qfuzkFoQa9e2UTzgoYKR5iTtHv53cy_Ylcpjlsf6RGDuDIWKAoNm_364ZC__qCVXEWiWEah9PkQjsQj2DqsOoa3-UF_CAmSWQmCuxIaEjXvdAWO6KzI4LA5T2ulEp_1l5Ns_0b9tcXRKiuFFVbzC4JN5A3IakQ5S_4HSKk&e=9cb0b3cb410c50774ebf7373f3815ed0&utm_source=frontandcentered&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=briefing_wa_transit_access_map&n=3> Washington Environmental Health Disparities Map (EHD Map), which also originated at Front and Centered, and provides data-driven insights into where people experience the greatest environmental health risk factors that can contribute to inequitable health outcomes and unequal access to healthy and prosperous communities. Similarly, WA TAM is an online platform that daylights statewide racial inequities by synthesizing and visualizing data. And like the EHD Map, WA TAM is a culmination of collective advocacy and community expertise.

Join us for a virtual event where we’ll launch both the WA Transit Access Map and our Transportation Justice Agenda and show you how to use these tools to fight for safer, more reliable transit and sidewalks in your community!
