Seeking input on payment systems from King County communities


KCIT recognizes that a portion of our community are underbanked, unbanked, or have other geographic, technological, or systemic challenges when it comes to payments. Some residents may struggle with language barriers, limited financial literacy, or disabilities. Other challenges include unstable income, cultural differences, limited transportation, time constraints, trust in institutions, privacy concerns, and high fees. We’re working with Olympic Research and Strategy to learn more about the challenges and potential opportunities.

We invite them to share their experiences and opinions in engaging discussion groups about Payment Systems. The aim is to delve into the unique needs of residents and explore how we can enhance the payment experience in King County by offering the ability to pay online, in person, by phone, or by mail.

The schedule for upcoming discussion groups is as follows:

May 15 Online (via Microsoft Teams) 2 – 3 p.m.

May 15 Online (via Microsoft Teams) 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Participants who qualify for these one-hour meetings will be compensated for their time with a $75 gift card.

The 2025-2026 General Fund is facing a $100 million revenue shortfall due to the state’s arbitrary one percent limit on property tax collections, which has not been updated in 20 years and now coincides with increased costs and high rates of inflation exceeding 9%.

To prevent deeper cuts in the next biennial budget and to provide time for affected programs to wind down, King County will be considering a budget in the fall that will include cuts to general fund programs.
